An update from Mark at the Muddy Pig…
Hi,
Beer. So much beer. Did you ever think you would see a bar in Minnesota with three Flemish sour ales on tap at one time? Or 50 different Belgian beers and 80+ whiskies? You, the patrons of The Muddy Pig, are the best customers in the state. Thank you.
Now it’s time to show you have a big heart as well as good taste. The weekend of June 9-10 will see me riding the MS150 to raise money for the MS Society ofMinnesota. Two days and 150 miles on a bicycle in sunny, cloudy, wet, dry, windy, cold, hot, foggy weather (and that’s all in one day) to raise money for the cause. You can do your part by becoming a sponsor.
Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated and making the donation couldn’t be easier. Simply drop off a check at The Muddy Pig made out to the MS Society of Minnesota or donate on-line at www.mssociety.org , click on ePledge and search Mark van Wie. Making a donation is way easier than riding.
And for all you golfers, the 4th annual Muddy Pig Golf Snouting will be held Monday, June 18th at high noon. We will be playing Clifton Highlands just north ofPrescott, Wisconsin this year and all funds raised will again be going to the Children’s Home Society & Family Services. Scramble format and your $85 entry fee includes golf, cart, dinner at The Muddy Pig, prizes and lots of fun. Registration forms are available at The Pig.
So here’s the deal. We’ll keep serving the best beers in the world, great whisky and yummy food in the best bar in the cities and you will make a donation to the MS Society and go golfing with us on the 19th. And thank you.
Mark
Per the usual Thursday night cask at The Happy Gnome, this week’s offerings are:
Big Sky Dry-hopped Pale Ale
Bells Two Hearted Cask
Also, mark your calendars because Thursday June 7th they’ll be tapping a firkin of Bell’s Expedition Stout.
You can get a taste (or three) of Surly’s newest beer, a heavily Americanized English Bitter, aptly titled Bitter Brewer (I suppose Yorktown would have been too obscure and not very surly...) I was secretly hoping they’d call it Powermad… oh well… Uptown Old Chicago, tonight, 7-9pm.
Time for your latest shot of Surly news.
First off, our new beer, Bitter Brewer, debuts at the Uptown Old Chicago on
Wednesday, May 9th. Dollar off regular taps from 7-9 PM. The new beer is our
take on an English Bitter. Yes, we put more hops in it than we’re supposed
to. Look for this beer around town for a week or so. We only brewed one
batch, so it will be gone faster than a Bud Light lovin’ frat boy at one of
our tours. Also coming up this week, a beer dinner at North Coast Restaurant in
Wayzata. The event is Friday, May 11th. Dinner starts at 7:00 and the price
of $39 is a bargain for the 5 course meal. Check out our calendar for the
menu. Call 952.475.4960 or check out their web-site for more info,
www.northcoastwayzata.com. This will be your first chance to taste this
year’s release of CynicAle! We are shooting for a launch date around
Memorial Day since Surly Nation demanded its return. We have gotten a few kudos lately and wanted you all to know. Furious won
the Best In Show at Arborfest beer festival last weekend. Thanks to all that
voted for Surly!
We also got props from the City Pages, Best of the Twin Cities – they gave
us a “Best Take-Home Brew†award. Of course, we like our beer at our home,
we like our beer at The Gnome; we like our beer on a boat, we like our beer
with a goat. We like our beer here and there, we like our beer everywhere.
Thanks guys. And finally, our own bitter brewer, Todd Haug, got a nice write
up in BeerAdvocate magazine. Pick up a copy at a local beer bar. Even
better, subscribe.MORE BEER! You will find Surly popping up at more restaurants, bars and
liquor stores as our new tanks are up and running. You gotta like that.See you drinking,
Omar
Late notice, but sounds like Brad “The Beer Guy” and some people from Sterkens will be at The Happy Gnome tonight pouring some beers sometime around 8pm.
