Ryan Anderson (that's me!) is the editor & founder of MNBeer. Much has changed since the fall of 2005 and I'm proud to have been a part of it all. Sometime I'll tell you about my grand theory that links craft brewing to punk rock. Just ask.

Stub & Herb’s beer tasting

Jon’s been talking about this for a bit, so it’s good to see it happening. With any luck, perhaps I’ll see you at the Stub & Herb’s next Wednesday.

Stub and Herb’s is kicking off it’s first of a series of monthly beer tastings. The event takes place on Wednesday Feb. 27 at 7:PM.

Stub’s will welcome Roger Lind of Sierra Nevada to talk briefly about Sierra and sample some of their fine brews (including this years Bigfoot on draft). We will then hold a brief discussion of a few beer styles and sample out what we have to offer at Stub’s.

The event is free to attend. Light appetizers will be complementary. Tasting glasses will be sold for $5 and will allow you access to all beers being sampled.

Thanks. I hope to see you there.

Summit Sparkling Ale

…no it’s not a new beer. It’s an old beer… a 1989 bronze medal winner at GABF in the Blond/Golden Ale category. I also ran across a mention of Summit Christmas Ale (the name that likely preceded Summit Winter Ale) in an 80s-era beer book at Half Price Books. I occasionally stop into the store during lunch breaks to check for copies of the Classic Beer Styles books.

Anyway, it’s a slow news day. Discuss. Did you ever drink this beer? What did you think?

Brewtopia

Here’s a little note I received from Michael about a new endeavor, Brewtopia. It sounds like fun and is being put together by an MNBeer reader, so brownie points are earned immediately!

Brewtopia is a new Twin Cities company created to promote beer appreciation and the enjoyment of good beer through private in-house beer tasting events. We are celebrating our inagural event on March 3rd at the Happy Gnome.

Brewtopia has paired up with John Glas of Wineglas, a company that does in-house wine tasting in the Twin Cities, to promote this event.

Here’s the details:

When: Monday, March 3rd at 7:00 PM
Where: The Happy Gnome, 498 Selby Ave., St. Paul, 55102
What: Tasting a sampling of great beers in a worldwide beer style survey, with instruction on how to taste beer, particulars of the styles, and what to look for in taste, aroma and appearance of each beer. Plus lot’s interesting beer lore and plenty of delightfully witty banter.
Cost: $25/person
What to do: Call Michael Agnew at 612-724-4514 or email to magnew63@msn.com for info or to reserve a spot. Space is limited.

MNBeer traffic report

Not to brag too much, but I was just looking at our stats and we’re averaging nearly 1800 unique visitors per day. Not hits, not files, not pages, but visitors. Nearly 510,000 visitors or 2.8 million hits in the past year. Pretty impressive for a local beer site!
