Ryan Anderson (that's me!) is the editor & founder of MNBeer. Much has changed since the fall of 2005 and I'm proud to have been a part of it all. Sometime I'll tell you about my grand theory that links craft brewing to punk rock. Just ask.

More good things from Schell’s

Schell’sAs a follow-up to Mag’s post, I’ll add a little more information passed along by Jace Marti… First, expect more posts on the event page than in the past, including photos, etc. Also, Schell’s 150th Anniversary draft series kicks off in two weeks. Schell’s will be producing a new single batch brew every three months from now until their 150th anniversary in 2010. The first beer, 1878 Einbecker Doppelbock, will be released on August Schell’s birthday, February 15th. Other single batches will follow on dates that have historical significance for the brewery as well. Again, these are draft-only and will only be at a limited number of bars. Some of the recipes originate from an old German brewing book that the brewery received after prohibition and others are the brewery’s old recipes, including pre- and post-prohibition. Consumers will also have the chance to vote on their favorite and the winning brew will be brought back as Schell’s 150th Anniversary beer! Pretty cool.

Also, check out the artwork for the new Schell’s Stout. Nicely done!

Town Hall Beer Release: Coffee Porter

Let me tell you a little secret… you may already know that coffee is good in beer. Perhaps you’ve had a coffee stout or maybe Surly’s Coffee Bender. But… if you’ve never had coffee in a porter, you’re missing out. I have a nice oatmeal porter infused with cold brewed coffee from Stumbeano’s in Fergus Falls, MN. It’s in the carboy and tastes great, and this is warm and flat beer folks. Keeping that in mind, note that the boys at Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery can brew me under the table (and then some) and Peace Coffee is very good as well. Read on:

Coffee Porter is coming……Monday 2/4 swing on by and have a pint during release for just $2.50 from 5-6pm. For coffee beer fans- this is another version of the popular “Black Snow Coffee Porter.” This beer is made with freshly roasted beans from the local roasters at Peace Coffee (check them out on line @ www.peacecoffee.com).

See you Monday-
Mike

Oh, and from the sound of it, their Bright Spot Golden Ale is soon to be replaced by their Dortumunder lager. One would hope that they won’t call it “Slamma Jamma Juice” again, but there are worse things…

Clear out the cooler at Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery

townhall.jpgWhile it lasts… $2 pints of Schell’s Schmaltz Alt, Summit Pilsener and Rush River BubbleJack at Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery.

Hey All,
We’ve got another reason for you to come to THB. We will feature $2 pints on, Schell’s Smaltz Alt followed by Summit Pilsner, followed by Rush River Bubble Jack IPA. We were happy to serve these fine products during our brewery shut down (expansion) and now again need the cooler space. You fine folks have the chance to drink this great beer while it lasts……cheap!
Cheers!

Big news at What Ale’s Thee…

What Ales TheeCheck out the latest podcast from the fellas over at What Ale’s Thee for some interesting news about the Twin Cities first ever specialty beer store. Alvey called me the other week to give me the official scoop. I had been hinting for more details after hearing about it from a fellow bicycle enthusiast while enjoying fermented beverages at a birthday party. In any case, I’ll make you listen/watch to get all of the details, but you can keep your eyes peeled for a new craft beer store in the Twin Cities with an emphasis on local, craft and import beer. They’ll have things like brewery signage, glassware, etc. too. They won’t have hard liquor, crappy beer, 40s, etc. Watch and learn more about The Convict’s Pint.
