Ryan Anderson (that's me!) is the editor & founder of MNBeer. Much has changed since the fall of 2005 and I'm proud to have been a part of it all. Sometime I'll tell you about my grand theory that links craft brewing to punk rock. Just ask.

ProtoTap & a Thank You

This is what happens when you have too much time on your hands on a Saturday. Actually I’ve been toying with an idea that involves MNBeer tap handles (more information forthcoming) for a while and decided to finally rough out a prototype. Of course I don’t have the equipment and/or skill to properly create the 1.5″ x 2.5″ diamonds, so a jigsaw, sander and a few prayers helped to make my prototype look decent, more or less.

Is anyone interested in cutting a dozen diamonds for me sometime in the future? I just don’t own the proper tools or skills.

Also, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank all of our wonderful visitors. MNBeer is slowly creeping toward its first birthday, and without any begging or pleaing, we’ve just about paid our hosting fees (and that of another couple of sites) with the simple Google ads on the right side of your screen. Thank you! Your clicks are greatly appreciated!

Fitger’s Update

We thought you’d like to know that we’ll be working closely with our neighbors to the north at Fitger’s Brewhouse to keep you informed of all of the great beers that Dave and the gang roll out each week. If you take a gander at the taps list at right, you’ll notice a new list of wonderful beers available at the Brewhouse. TWELVE BEERS! Yes, TWELVE BEERS! Nice, eh? I’m about ready for a road trip to Duluth.

Work at Vine Park

This sounds like a cool opportunity for the right person. Vine Park needs part-time help. It’s something I’d even consider if my schedule didn’t suck…

ine Park Brewing Co is looking to hire a hard working, customer friendly
part-time employee. We thought you might know of someone who would fit in
with our operation as you’ve been here before. This is a great job for
someone in college looking for a part time position and flexible working
hours. We are sorry to see Matt leave but his college class schedule has
changed and he is no longer available during evenings.

This is a great opportunity to join a small operation and be a part of a
team. Our business has been growing strongly and we want someone who can
make a commitment to be here during that growth.

This is a part-time position with both significant interaction with
customers and time spent alone working on Brewery equipment cleanup. You
must be available weekday evenings and Saturday during the day. The
Brewery is open year round. This is generally not a good “second job” as
you will need to be here when the customer schedule is busy.

We are looking for a high energy person that is dependable, can organize
their work, and is quality focused. Duties would include assisting
customers with the beer bottling operation, working the cash register, and
cleaning wine & beer fermentors between uses. While we do have a lot of
fun, you will get your hands dirty and do repetitive work that requires
high quality so as to ensure standards of sanitation for the brewing
process. This is also a fairly physical job involving lifting, moving
materials, and bending over fermentors.

Vine Park Brewing Co is the Midwest’s only Brew Your Own Beer & Wine on
Premise. We are a small operation with a staff of four so you will be an
integral part of the team. Hours will fluctuate as needed but range from
24 to 65 hours per two week period. Hourly wage is $8.50.

Applicants must be 18 or older and have knowledge of beer, beer brewing and
wine is a plus but not required. Vine Park Brewing Co is an equal
opportunity employer.

Surly Update

News from Surly:

Hello Surly Nation,

news from Brooklyn Center:

The Taste of the Midwest in Madison was a blast. Folks loved the beer (check
out the photos) and we had a great time getting slapped around at a local
gyro shop Friday night.

We are having a tour coming up Saturday, August 26th. Noon – 3:00. Stop on
by for a beer.

We like to have fun with our beer. Beer at a movie theater – very fun.
Drinking Surly beer while watching a movie about drinking beer – its like a
dream come true. Thusly, we will be at the New Hope Cinema Grill August 30th
for a Surly screening of Beerfest, the latest movie from Broken Lizard.
Check out our calander page for specials that night.

The great thing abount the New Hope Cinema Grill; you can walk into that
movie theater and buy a beer. And, I don’t mean just like a paper cup, I’m
talking about a glass of beer.

Bad news – Surlyfest is being postponed. We simply run out of time to do
things the way we hoped. Sorry.

Cheers,
Omar
