Sam Adams Latitude 48 IPA Tasting at Heritage Thursday

Latitude 48 hop breakdown with the crew from Heritage. Stop in from 5-7 on Thursday, May 26th and take part!

The single hop IPA…..homebrewers love it, as do those who want to expand their beer expertise. While it’s not a new idea, Samuel Adams has made the single hop IPA affordable and accessible with their Latitude 48 IPA Deconstructed 12-pack. They’ve taken apart the Lat 48 hops formula to show us exactly what it’s made of, comprising five varieties of hops — Hallertau Mittelfrueh from Germany; East Kent Goldings from England; and Ahtanum, Simcoe, and Zeus, all from Washington state’s Yakima Valley. The beer’s name refers to the 48th latitude line, where all these hops are grown.

Each strain of hops carries different characteristics — pine, citrus, and floral notes, for example, along with varying degrees of bittering power. With the Deconstructed packs we’re able to assess each individually. For this week’s Thursday tasting, we’ll have all 5 single hop versions as well as the original open to try. We’ll walk you through them and quench your thirst…for knowledge.

Our Thursday night tastings run from 5-7PM

Rock Bottom Cask Beer Tapping Tonight

First, I’ve got to admit that I totally missed the announcement that Bob McKenzie (Granite City, Sherlock’s Home) would be taking over as Brewmaster at Rock Bottom in Minneapolis.  In any case, tonight at 6pm, they’ll be tapping a couple of casks:  a cocoa nib-infused Taconite dark mild, and a Simcoe dry hopped cask of IPA. Additionally they’ll have another  10 beers on tap including Chardonnay aged Modern Monk Dubbel, Wine barrel aged Trippel and the Taconite Mild.
