Free Beer with Mike Redmond Tonight!

Not sure what kind of mood he’ll be in after an astonishing loss to the Sox moments ago, but Twin’s catcher Mike Redmond will be tapping the the annual Catcher in the Rye at Rock Bottom at 6pm this evening. All guests will receive a free pint of beer at the tapping, and Mike will be signing autographs.

Arrive before 6:00 p.m. to sign up for a drawing to win a suite for up to 12 people for the Twins home game on September 18th!

Summit on a Stick with Stutrud

While at the Fair Sunday, I sought out two things… Shell’s Anniversary Series Roggenbier and Summit on a Stick. I found the first in Heritage Square. The latter was available at the International Bazaar, but by the time I arrived on Sunday, the sticks had sold out! I think I need to go back… solely for the stick (and maybe, just maybe, some other things on a stick). For $7.50 you get three 7oz pours of EPA, Horizon Red, and Oktoberfest, nestled in a stick shaped like a paddle (a mash paddle… yeah…).

Mark Stutrud will be on hand on Sept. 2 from 4-6pm and Sept. 3 from 1-3pm to talk and drink beer you and a bizillion other Minnesotan’s. Awesome.

…and here’s a shot from the stick factory in Jeannie’s basement

Farm Girl Tasting

For South Metro fans of Lift Bridge’s Farm Girl or for those of you who’ve yet to try this beer, there is a Farm Girl tasting on Thursday, 9/10 in Burnsville.  The tasting is in the Burnsville Art Center parking lot and is hosted by Red Lion Liquors.

Battle of the Belg: Belgian Beer Taste-off at the Blue Nile

Leave it to Al to bring us another special beer drinking session at the Blue Nile! Here’s the 411 straight from the horse’s mouth (no offense, Al, I like horses).

Here’s the quick and dirty facts, folks:

Next weekend, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, all Belgian and Belgian-style taps at the Blue Nile, with tasting sets to include samples from our bottles as well. 2 representatives of 6 styles, one Belgian and one American.
Here’s what we’ll have:
Belgian hoppy ale/IPA: Poperings Hommel Bier, Gouden Carolus Hopsinjoor (no American contestant in this one.)
Sour Ale: Ommegang Rouge & Two Brothers/Urthel Mouten
Tripel: Flat Earth Bermuda Triangle vs. Val-Dieu
Dubbel: North Coast Brother Thelonious vs. Witkap Dubbel
Saison: Boulevard Tank 7 vs. St. Feullien
Witbier: Avery White Rascal vs. Blance des Bruxelles

Also, looking to add some cask to this, for fun, Surly Cynic, for sure, maybe something else.

More details to come.

And…this is only part one! Part two comes the first weekend in October

And, yes, I know it’s Labor Day Weekend, but I haven’t done a beer fest in 3 months, not counting my birthday, and all the other weekends in Sept are conflicted by something else. If you can’t make it due to LD plans, stop in and see what’s left…part two will be new beers, and some new styles, as well!
