Summit Unchained #2 Details

Carey over at Summit sent me a bottle of cough syrup and the full details on #2 in the Unchained Series.

Here you go Mr. Anderson, to cure what ales you:

90/-, a Scottish Style Ale with Heather, will be the next beer in the Summit Unchained Series.  Veteran brewer Eric Blomquist will be in charge of this hearty brew, perfect to ward off the impending chill of winter.  Look for this beer in November.  Some stats:

The 90/- will have a rich mahogany appearance with an off white to tan head.  The center point of this ale is smooth and rounded, yet complex, malt characteristics which include caramel notes and a hint of roastiness.  In the background, light herbal flavor and aroma from the heather and Willamette hops will be followed by a slightly warming and sweet finish.  It will be light to moderate in carbonation.

Color:  Mahogany
Malt:  Blend of Golden Promise with other specialty malts and grains from the UK
Kettle Additions: Target and Willamette hops,  wild Scottish heather
Yeast:  Authentic UK Ale strain
OG:  16.5 ° Plato
IBU:  25
ABV:  7.0%

Ngon – New Cask & Seasonal

The new cask is oak aged Surly Bender: Surly Bender aged with oak for 3 weeks ABV – 5.1%

New seasonal is Lift Bridge Chestnut Hill: Beer style: Nut Brown Ale ABV: 7.0%

Description: A wonderfully big nut brown ale crafted with roasty toasty malts balanced with Yakima hops and just enough alcohol to keep you warm on a fall afternoon. This is Lift Bridge’s newest seasonal beer released in draught only.

In addition to the beer, Ngon has great food, and if you can make it over there for lunch a little birdie said that their Croque Madam is to die for.

First Snowstorm of 2009 on Radar

Schell’s just posted on their Facebook page that the 2009 Snowstorm will be a Baltic Porter. Dave Berg sent us a few more details about this beer, so we thought we’d share:

Snowstorm 2009

OG 17.5 Plato
IBU 31
SRM 63

Beer writer Lew Bryson referred to Baltic Porters  as “a trainwreck between a Dopplebock and an Imperial Stout.”  If the shoe fits…

Copious amounts of Munich malt coupled with 3 British crystal malts, British Chocolate, and some other stuff, Snowstorm 2009 displays flavor reminiscent of dark fruit, licorice, and chocolate.

Release Date:  Nov 1, 2009
