Finnegans ShamROCK

shamROCKShamROCK is Finnegans’ second annual outdoor music event benefitting Heading Home Hennepin. ShamROCK 2008 is an afternoon-to-evening music extravaganza featuring up-and-coming local and national acts and a headline performance by Built to Spill. You’ll find Finnegans beer on tap, street entertainment and contests, food from The Cabooze & Whiskey Junction, and a day of partying for a great cause.Built to Spill will take the outdoor stage at 8:30 p.m.; the rest of the line-up is as follows: Ol’ Yeller, Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, and Minneapolis favorites A Night In The Box and Romantica. For what it’s worth, I really like Built to Spill and Ol’ Yeller… of course before you try to pigeonhole me, I was just listening to Strike Anywhere in the car, but I digress…This year’s Finnegans ShamROCK will benefit   Heading Home Hennepin, a community coalition to end homelessness in Minneapolis and Hennepin County by 2016.  For tickets and more information, visit   www.finnegansshamrock.org.

Is this a replacement for Summerfest this year? Summerfest last year had 28 bands and 4 stages. Dave Pirner and the Volunteers, The Delilahs reunion, White Light Riot, Tim Mahoney and a bunch of others. This years lineup just doesn’t seem to compare.

Yup. It looks like it falls on the same date and is at the same place. Last year the event seemed to be entirely composed of Minnesota bands and musicians. This year it looks like the numbers have shrunk, but they’re also bringing in a national act, Built to Spill. I actually think that this year’s lineup looks better than last.

Last year was plenty of fun. Gonna be hard to beat The Delilah’s reunion. Got someone arrested that was stealing stuff from people’s bikes. Realized that you could get a 22oz bottle of beer for $4 while the Finnegans was $5 for a pint. Saw overzealous police taze the crap outta two people.
