Gastro Non Grata 8 with the one you love

Chip over at Fox 9 sent me this little ditty about V-Day this year…

Don’t have the funds for an all out for Valentine’s Day?  On Sunday, February 15 from 6 to 9 p.m., bring the one(s) you love to a glorious winter love fest at the Triple Rock Social Club for the 8th installment of Gastro Non Grata. Featuring artisan beer, local culinary luminaries and rock bands all under one roof…for free!

This event’s beer guest will be Tom Gardner of Duvel USA, sampling four varieties of beer ranging from the classic belgian golden,  Duvel to a cave-aged Ommegang Belgian dubbel style and a couple other beers tbd..

Our food tasting will be with Jim Grell of the Modern Café (moderncafeminneapolis.com), recently featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives. Along with helper chef Mike Phillips, they’ll be serving two sample courses, showing the crowd the secrets behind their famously succulent pot roast. For the second course they’ll give you a few leftover pot roast options.

To sweeten the deal, cult cupcake goddess Sheela Namakkal (mielyleche.net) with be handing out coffee cupcakes (paired with Duvel’s Chocolate Indulgence) to kick up a little sugar rush before you head back out into the brutal Minnesota winter. Miel y Leche has been featured in the City Pages, Minnesota Monthly, Metro, The Rake, and will be in the next Minneapolis-St. Paul magazine.

As always, we’ll hold a meat raffle. We’re proud to have Clancey’s Butcher Shop of Linden Hills on board providing us the finest cuts of homegrown, sustainably raised flesh around, some of the hottest beef jerky on earth, beautifully aged duck confit, and maybe even a little blood sausage.

Topping it all off, four great local bands will be playing with no abandon . That’s What You Get, featuring members of the the Modern Café staff, start the night off with electro-pop ridiculousness. Jim Blaha of the Blind Shake will perform as the psych-blues Jim and the French Vanilla (myspace.com/jimandthefrenchvanilla), and you’ll swoon to the glamorous pop stylings of Skirt (myspace.com/skirtgalore). Closing the night will be Gospel Gossip with their Picked to Click fuzzed-out dream pop.

As a special treat, local artist Vincent Stall (kingmini.com) will be milling about reminiscing about cynicism and the wonderful posters he’s done for Gastro Non Grata over the last eight shows.  He’ll also be showing some of the other art he’s kept hidden in his attic of solitude. Prints of the Gastro Non Grata 8 poster will be available, as well as special Gastro-Bags full of buttons, trading cards, and other fun stuff in exchange for nominal donations.
