If It Ain’t On Your Beerdar, It Should Be = Fat Lorenzo’s

I FINALLY stopped by Fat Lorenzo’s for dinner this evening after years of driving by and saying, “Hmm, I should check it out.”  I was surprised and pleased to see they have a very respectable beer menu.  They aren’t loaded with MN craft beers, but their overall craft selection is pretty good.  Here are the highlights (not complete, ignores imports, etc.).

Summit EPA

Bell’s (2 Hearted, 3rd Coast, Pale, Oberon)

Furthermore Fatty Boombalatty

Brau Bros Sheep Head

Rush River Small Axe Golden Pale

Two Brothers Ebel’s Weiss

New Holland Dragon’s Milk

Southern Tier Imperial Iniquity

Goose Island Matilda

New Belgium (Mothership Wit, Fat Tire)

Oh yeah, and all the beers are priced at $3.50 except for the Goose Island ($4.00) and the Southern Tier ($8.00).  The Dragon’s Milk might have been more than $3.50 also.  And they have gelato!!!

You can find Fat Lorenzo’s at the southern edge of Lake Nokomis in Mpls (Cedar Ave. and Edgewater Blvd.)

You wanted local craft beer at the new Twins stadium?

Hmm. Not sure if they’re listening. This doesn’t look terribly promising. Nothing says “ultimate Minnesota outdoor experience” like… uh… Budweiser?! Maybe not…

Target Field to feature Budweiser Roof Deck

This probably shouldn’t be looked upon as a final nail in the craft beer for having craft beer at the new stadium… Summit, Schell’s and Cold Spring lack the cashflow that Budweiser brings to the table, but something about having Budweiser as a prominent part of our new baseball stadium sort of cheapens things for me. I guess we can still hope for a little good beer at the new stadium. C’mon Twins… step it up a bit!

Summit Unchained Series: Kölsch

Here’s the scoop on Summit’s Kölsch that will be hitting shelves in July… Label art and all…

Summit will be releasing a Kölsch this July as part of their new limited run series called the Unchained Series.  The brewery will release 3 different styles a year, with very small runs of each beer.  Each style is helmed by an individual brewer-they get to choose the style and are in charge of overseeing the whole process, from recipe formulation to ordering raw materials.  The packaging will actually feature the brewer’s name and signature.  The Kölsch is being brought to you by Brewer Mike “the Miz” Miziorko.  The focus of the series is to showcase our brewers’ talent and creativity, as well as to brew some styles that may be underrepresented in this market.  The Unchained Series will be available in 6-packs and on draught.

PS-the label says German Style Kölsch because the TTB said it had to be labeled as such!

Cask Aftermath

In case you couldn’t make it over to the Blue Nile on Saturday, you’re in luck! There’s some cask Surly Bitter Brewer and Summit Horizon Red left from the Hop Heads Only! event. Come by Sunday (open at 4 pm) for a pint for only $4!
