Schell’s Anniversary Draft Series #6

By ryan on April 1, 2009in breweries

Just a quick reminder that April 2nd marks the release of Schell’s Anniversary Draft Series #6 as well as the 85th Anniversary of abatement charges against the brewery being dropped during Prohibition. Jace put a page up on the Schell’s website that has two newspaper articles about the trial as well as their transcripts. They’re a bit lengthy, but it gives a little insight into a scary part of Schell’s past and some background about their latest release.

Ted & Jeff’s 10 Year Anniversary

By ryan on March 30, 2009in bars/restaurants, breweries

If you must be an April Fool, Acadia should be on your foolin’ list… er… yeah.

Sure it’s April Fools Day, but there’s no foolin’ here.  April 1st is Ted and Jeff’s 10 Year Anniversary of being in business together!  We’ll have 6 Surly’s on tap PLUS a pin of Furious with tea-bagged Amarillo hops.  We’ll tap the pin at 9 pm, so make sure to stop by Common Roots first for the release of Bitter Brewer, and then stop by here for some great beer and music afterwards.  And if Surly is not your thing (as if), we’ll have plenty of other beers “left over” from our 1 year anniversary party that we’re sure you’ll enjoy.

Minnesota craft beer sales continue to grow

By Eric on March 30, 2009in general beer

I’m sure we all assumed this, given the fact that the craft beer scene has exploded in the last year, but now we have the data to prove it! Twin Cities Business magazine has a nice story on the burgeoning craft brewing scene in Minnesota. Thanks JS for the heads up!

MN Craft Beer Sales Boom Despite Recession
Minnesota craft beer brewers outpaced their national peers by nearly 70 percent in 2008.

March 2009, by Katie Harholdt

Are beer sales recession proof? That doesn’t appear to be the case now. Overall, U.S. beer sales were flat in 2008—they saw a meager 0.4 percent increase in sales, according to the Association of Brewers, a beer trade group based in Colorado. The beer industry typically sees healthy single-digit growth each year.

But there’s some good news on the craft beer front, which includes all of Minnesota’s beer makers. Nationally, craft brewers (defined as brewpubs, microbreweries, regional craft breweries, and contract brewing companies) saw their sales rise 5.8 percent in 2008. During that same period in Minnesota, craft beer sales were up a whopping 74.5 percent.

Why such a jump? One explanation is that there’s room to grow. Craft brewing is a small part of the overall U.S. beer industry—just $6.3 billion of the $101 billion beer market in 2008, according to the Association of Brewers.
