Where the Wild Beers Are…

Love the name, guys… In any case, I’ve been instructed to clear my calendar for August 17th and have done so… here’s why:

Attention WILD & SOUR BEER fans!

Introducing “WHERE THE WILD BEERS ARE”, a collaborative beer tasting presented by Twin Cities Imbiber and hosted by Stub and Herb’s Cocktails and Dining Emporium. Sunday August 17th beginning at 4pm.

This isn’t your typical beer tasting/festival. It is a group effort to celebrate the rare and wild, by enthusiasts for enthusiasts. We invite all fans of the funk to dig through their cellars and bring wild brews for all to share. We have already raided our cellars and are bringing ales such as Cantillon 50N-4E, 3 Fonteinen Doesjel, Cantillon Cuvee Des Champions, Rodenbach Classic, Hanssens Oude Gueuze, Panil Barrique (2005 & 2008) and much more to share.

MNBeer sold out…

…all of our ad space, anyway. We have eight Minnesota advertisers booked through January for the top banner placement on the site. Of course I know there’s still some interest out there, so I’m now looking at getting rid of the Google ad and making the space available to advertisers. The ad’s smaller, so it’ll be cheaper. Drop me an e-mail if you’re interested and I’ll send you specifics (ryan AT mnbeer.com).

Pint Glasses or T-Shirts?

I’ve been selling a little advertising on MNBeer.com and have decided that it’s time to get my hands on some MNBeer.com swag. So… (if you care, of course) what would you prefer? T-Shirts, pint glasses, something else?

The next August Schell 150th Anniversary Draft Series beer is…

Schell’sA Dampfbier. On August 1st, August Schell Brewing Co. will release a beer honoring Otto Schell, the second president of Schell’s (1902-1911). The beer is a Bavarian Forest Dampfbier. As the folks at Schell’s put it,

Dampfbiers came from southern Bavaria during the late eighteenth century, when the Bavarian Forest was was one of the poorest regions in Bavaria.  Wheat was too valuable to be wasted on beer brewing, and the hops of the nearby Hallertau region were too expensive to purchase. So brewers developed an all barley beer, but didn’t have the temperature control to produce lagers.  With ales being a rarity in Germany, it required the brewer to travel to the nearest Weissbier brewery and scrounge some yeast to brew their Dampfbier.

Jace tells me it’s an all-barley beer fermented with their weizen yeast. Sounds good to me!
