New Ulm Oktoberfest

…we hear they have a brewery in town as well…

The “City of Festivals”, New Ulm, Minnesota, will crank up the accordions at the 26th Annual Oktoberfest this fall in October. Oktoberfest New Ulm is a joint festival of the Holiday Inn New Ulm and the New Ulm Chamber of Commerce held the first two weekends in October each year to celebrate its German heritage. The festival will be held at the Holiday Inn and Downtown New Ulm featuring local, regional, and European entertainment, along with great German food and plenty of locally brewed August Schell’s beer products at both locations.

This Old World celebration will feature musical entertainment including New Ulm’s famous Concord Singers, German Brass Bands, and of course numerous local and regionally acclaimed polka bands providing all of the German favorites to “oompah, polka, and waltz” the night away. Don’t forget to visit the wonderful specialty shops while in downtown New Ulm, ranging from “gnome-made fudge”, collectible dolls, gift shops, and many, many more.

Also sure to please children and adults alike, will be the horse-drawn trolley rides throughout downtown on Saturdays and the numerous public tours available of the August Schell’s Brewery, John Lind Home, Wanda Gag House, Hermann Monument, Minnesota Music Hall of Fame, and many more.

We would be honored to have you “Discover Germany in Minnesota” while you join us for Oktoberfest 2007 and get to know New Ulm, the city and its people.

Toast to Michael Jackson at Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery

Hey All,
This coming Sunday eve 9/30 we would like to invite you to use the Town Hall Brewery as a meeting point for the national toast remembering the life of writer “The Beer Hunter”.

Michael Jackson, the English writer who taught millions that beer is “a noble and complex drink,” died in London on August 30, 2007. If you know his writing, you’ll understand what a loss this is to the beer world. If you’re now enjoying a range of diverse, beautifully-made beers, you owe him your thanks. Come raise a glass to his
memory as we participate in the national toast in Michael’s honor Sunday @8:00 pm.

Sunday we will begin our “Happy Hour” one hour earlier @ 7:00pm.

Cheers,
Mike

Stub & Herb’s is on board…

After the pile of posts and events added yesterday, I forgot to mention that Stub & Herb’s has been added to our tap list. They have a great selection of Minnesota craft beers and their bar manager seems like a great guy to deal with. Combine that with the new ownership and we’re in business!

Other MN bars with great beer: If you want to be listed on MNBeer.com, drop me a line (ryan AT mnbeer.com). Our requirements are fairly painless… we require that you have an average of at least 3 Minnesota beers on tap at any given time, a solid line-up of craft beer (if you selection of Coors, Bud and Miller is larger than your craft beer selection, you won’t qualify), and a little time every week to two weeks to let us know what’s changed on tap.  Beer drinkers: if your favorite bar is missing, encourage the bar manager to get in touch with us. This service is free, so you really can’t lose.
