Here’s some news from our friends at Schell’s in New Ulm… Snowstorm is gone, Maifest is out. I’ve seen Snowstorm and Schmaltz’s Alt in the coolers at a couple of places in SLP, but that’s all I know. Schell’s Stout should be showing up in kegs in the next week or two. Dave tells me that if you can’t wait, he found it at the B & L Bar in New Ulm.
Their Einbecker Doppelbock is gone from almost everywhere except the Twin Cities. Drink up friends! Apparently Duluth, Rochester, LaCrosse and Fargo drained their kegs in two weeks! Anniversary beer #2 is lagering in one of the tanks at the moment and we’ve been told that we won’t find out what this beer is until the Twin Cities catches up to the rest of the region.
Also, don’t forget that there’s a Schell’s beer dinner with Ted Marti March 25th at the Happy Gnome.
Want to sell that empty Miller Lite keg to a scrap metal dealer? You better do it quick, because it could soon be illegal. A bill to prohibit scrap metal dealers from buying or receiving a keg from anyone but a brewery, keg manufacturer, or their representative passed a key State Senate committee on Wednesday. Senate File 3455, authored by Sen. Jim Metzen (DFL-South St. Paul), will be voted on by the full Senate sometime in the next few weeks. The House version has yet to receive a hearing.
I don’t know the story of Old Shep, but I’m sure it’s good… if not, surely the beer will be good…
St. Patty’s is the time for stout and we are pleased to introduce our Old Shep Stout:
Named for a old canine friend, our Old Shep Stout is as faithful as man’s best pal. Brewed with five different malts, including an ample portion of roasted barley for that inky blackness stouts are known for. Layers of espresso like/dark chocolate undertones combine with a well balanced body.A true session stout that can be enjoyed all night long.
Local road cyclists know the legend of Old Shep-It will be a mystery to everyone else.
Unless you’ve just crawled out from under some rock, you know there are plenty of St. Patty’s Day celebrations taking place this weekend. If you’re thinking a pub crawl is the way you’d like to celebrate, Finnegan’s has a few spots left on their 11 am – 3 pm Saturday, March 15th bus. The party will start at Shamrock’s and for $40 you’ll complimentary Finnegan’s on the bus and a t-shirt. Visit the Finnegan’s website to sign up.
