Ryan Anderson (that's me!) is the editor & founder of MNBeer. Much has changed since the fall of 2005 and I'm proud to have been a part of it all. Sometime I'll tell you about my grand theory that links craft brewing to punk rock. Just ask.

Brew Love at Target Field

Brew Love is an annual beer tasting event at the Metropolitan Club at Target Field. This year’s event takes place on August 2nd. The goal of the event is to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, a dental clinic on wheels that delivers quality dental care directly to under-served children in the 14-county Twin Cities metropolitan area.

Brew Love participants sample a variety of regional, craft brews and enjoy food pairings. Summit, Granite City, Cold Spring, Schell’s, Lift Bridge, Mantorville, Finnegans and Crispin Cider have all been a part of this event in the past.

Tickets can be purchased here here – $25 for the beer tasting or $50 for the beer tasting coupled with food pairings. Event schedule forthcoming.

UPDATE: In addtition to the above mentioned breweries, others that will be participating are: Flat Earth, Fulton, Lucette and Surly.
As for the food, it will include: prosciutto wrapped melon, Bavarian pretzels with cheese, walleye cakes, bruschetta and more.

Schell’s Emerald Rye

August Schell Brewing Company has a brand-spanking new beer coming out later this month, Emerald Rye, a hoppy rye lager. At 60 IBUs, we’re looking at a beer with bittering units in the IPA realm and the addition of rye should add a nice, spicy character. So what about Emerald hops? Otherwise known as Smaragd, this is a fairly new German hop variety said to have fruity, floral characteristics. Schell’s describes the beer as having a biscuit-y malt base, deep ruby color, spicy rye and hop presence as well as notes of lemon and marmalade.

I’d like to try it. July 17th is the release date for draft, 6- and 12-packs.

Stats:

IBU’s: 60
ABV: 6.2%
Malts: 2-row, Vienna, Caramunich, Carvienne, Victory, Rye, Carapils
Hops: Smaragd (German for Emerald), Opal, Tettnang

Minnesota Beer Blog Aggregator

One of many little projects I’ve been working on behind the scenes is an aggregator for blogs that focus on beer in Minnesota. A few years ago, we had a meeting of Minnesota beer bloggers and I promised myself I’d make it an aggregator happen. I knew I could do a list, but why not something bigger and better?

Assuming I don’t break anything, we’ll be launching the mini-site within the month. The plan is to make it simple & clean and link to a handful of most recent posts titles from local beer bloggers. Judging by my list, we’ve the numbers are growing and it’s high time we give a nod to our fellow bloggers.

So this is where you can help. Aaron has a great list of Minnesota beer blogs over at Captains Chair, and I have a few more in my list of bookmarks as well. We’re looking for Minnesota blogs dealing (mostly… or heavily) with beer, be it homebrew, beer reviews, beer news or something in between. Ideally, we’d like to see sites that have been updated witin the last six months. What are we missing? Feel free to share them in the comments or shoot me an email directly at ryanATmnbeer.com.

Longfellow Patio Party with Tallgrass

Patio parties at Longfellow Grill are always a good time. This time around, they’ll be pouring Tallgrass beers, offering up $3 BBQ brisket sandwiches and live music by The Jupes. They’ll be pouring Halcyon, 8-bit, and Buffalo Sweat as well as a firkin of Halcyon wheat with apricots and Mt. Hood hops and a west coast IPA that’s never been poured in Minnesota (6:30pm tapping for that one…).

Flyer below the fold…
