Ryan Anderson (that's me!) is the editor & founder of MNBeer. Much has changed since the fall of 2005 and I'm proud to have been a part of it all. Sometime I'll tell you about my grand theory that links craft brewing to punk rock. Just ask.

Beer Evangelism

Beer Evangelism at The Four Firkins, originally uploaded by MNBeer.

I stopped in for another installment of Josh Pepper’s Beer Evangelism classes at The Four Firkins last night. If you haven’t been to one of Josh’s events, you should definitely try to get to one. Last night we tasted porters and stouts and talked about beer and the concept of celebration (with beer, of course.) There’s something very special about having a beer (or wine… or cocktails) with friends. It’s a shared experience that you just can’t have with water or Red Bull. And it isn’t really necessarily about getting a buzz, either (though there’s nothing wrong with that, either). Perhaps the idea is a bit nebulous, but I suspect many of you know what I’m getting at… So, uh, let’s get a beer folks – in April (at the MNBeerthday Party) or sooner!

Get out there and drink something…

The deadline is near!  Stop by any of the Blue Plate Restaurants for a chance to win super prizes in the Summit Brewery Bash Contest.  Prizes include a 35 person brewery party, a Summit brewer jacket, 4 club seats for our local pro hockey team, a Sue Mclean concert package, and a First Ave concert package.  Visit the Groveland Tap, Highland Grill, Edina Grill, Longfellow Grill, or 3 Squares and fill out a Summit coaster!  The drawing will be held December 4 at 7pm at the Groveland Tap (need not be present to win).

Schell’s Update

Schell’sBusy times here in New Ulm. The elusive Schmaltz Alt is being packaged this week to be ready for a late Dec/early Jan release. They’ll be bringing a special Fass of Schmaltz Alt to the Groveland Tap on Monday, December 22nd for a 6:00pm tapping.

The first batch of the new Schell Bock will be brewed this week. Schell Bock will be a limited release available Feb 2, 2009. Brewed with 10 different malts and a proprietary German yeast strain, Schell Bock will weigh in at 16 Plato and 24 IBUs.
