Jason Alvey remembers exactly where he was when he fell in love with craft beer. It was 2001, he had moved here from Australia and he was at the Uptown Pizza Luce when someone bought a pitcher of Summit Extra Pale Ale. “It’s been a slippery spiral ever since,” he said.
Maybe Mike is on vacation? Regardless, I found a note signed “The Brewery Gnomes” that mentions that Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery will be releasing Solstice, a light American pale ale (5.3% abv) on Monday, June 16th. They offer a special intro price from 5-6pm. Go celebrate the beginning of summer with the gang at Town Hall!

One of his proudest moments was in 2002, when he took a perennial mainstream beer off the tap line: “I dropped Budweiser and replaced it with Maredsous, a Belgian Abbey beer. We got rid of the most ubiquitous beer in the world for a family-owned brewery.”
Summit is in the final stages of hiring a new brewer. If you’re qualified and think you won’t ruin my Extra Pale Ale, Oatmeal Stout, etc., etc., apply. If you’ve got the brains and the brawn (apologies to the Pet Shop Boys), you can make lots of beer. Bonus points if you can figure out a way to keep my basement stocked cheaply (and legally) with lots of Summit.
Visit Buster’s on Wed., June 18th from 5:30 until 7:30 for a tapping of Schell’s 1867 Munich Dunkel. Beer reps will be on hand to talk about their beer, the history of the brewery as well as giving out Schell’s freebies.
