Ryan Anderson (that's me!) is the editor & founder of MNBeer. Much has changed since the fall of 2005 and I'm proud to have been a part of it all. Sometime I'll tell you about my grand theory that links craft brewing to punk rock. Just ask.

Fulton War and Peace Release (Bottles, too!)

Fulton Brewing Co.Fulton’s Imperial Coffee Stout, War & Peace, makes its return Saturday at their taproom. War & Peace is infused with whole bean Guatemalan Organic dark roast coffee from Peace Coffee. You’ll be able to have it on draft or take home a 750ml bottle for $15 if you visit the brewery Saturday. Can’t make it Saturday, on Monday (2/25), War & Peace will roll out on draft and in bottles across the Twin Cities.

War & Peace is part of what Fulton is calling the Garage Series – a home for some of their beers that just don’t fit anywhere else. This series may include some experiments, infusions, barrel-aged beers and whatever else. We look forward to seeing more as the series develops!

Junkyard Brewing Company

…It is hard not to notice is that Aaron and Dan are young: 24 and 21 respectively. I asked about Aaron’s background and how he went beyond the macro lagers, and I got a nice story of how he was in college in Michigan on the rugby team…

Stout Week at Groveland Tap

Groveland Tap, St. PaulWhen I think winter, inevitably, I think of stouts (and porters for that matter) and all things dark. So it’s only fitting that Groveland Tap celebrates the chill with their Stout Week next week. They’ve got a nice lineup of stouts and plan to have specials on flights as well as food made with stout. They’ll be tapping the beers listed below at 5pm on Monday and pour them ’til they run dry. Enjoy!

Lift Bridge, Summit Oatmeal, Big Wood Morning Wood, 3rd Street Sugar Shack, Brau Bros. Moo Joos, Odell Lugene, Millstream Backroad, 21st Amendment Oyster, Founder’s Breakfast, Tall Grass Buffalo Sweat with Vanilla Bean, Goose Island Bourbon County, Guinness and a cask of Fulton Worthy Adversary.

Better Beer Society Spring Semester w/ Special Guest Ray Daniels

Better Beer Society University kicks off its spring semester on March 6th with a new sponsor and a special visitor. The Cicerone Certification Program is now title sponsor for Better Beer Society University and founder and director of the program, Ray Daniels, will be at the first class. Daniels is also the author of “Designing Great Beers” as well as over two dozen other books on beer and brewing.

Class will begin on March 6th, and the semester will run for 12 weeks. Republic (7 Corners) will once again host the classes. The semester will include two one-hour sessions (6pm and 7:30pm). Tuition cost for BBSU spring semester will be $75 (which equates to $6 / class, or roughly the cost of a beer).  Tickets can be purchased here: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/329360

Register today, space is limited.

BBSU is an educational weekly “beer school” for both the beer enthusiast, as well as the novice. Our goal is to educate students on all aspects of the beer industry (breweries, retail, hop farming, distribution, maltsters, and so forth). We also teach you how to explore your palate, cook w/ beer and create pairings.

Students are treated to some very exclusive and rare beers during certain classes (i.e. – Cantillon Fou’Foune & aged Surly Darkness) as well as special field trips and access to local breweries before they open to the general public.
