Beer Class/Sampling at Cork and Cask in St. Cloud

Marty dropped us a line to tell us about an event at Cork and Cask in St. Cloud. Go check it out. Sounds like fun!

I work at the Cork and Cask in St. Cloud, a specialty liquor store. October 22nd we will be having a beer class/sampling at 5 and again at 6. We’ll be sampling seven different beers and going over a little history, style, technique, etc. Hopefully this will be a monthly event. And it’s free. The store is located at the intersection of Highway 23 and I-94 in “The Grande Depot” aka that big train station you can see from the highway and nobody know’s what it is. It’d be great to see some folks out there, it’s designed for both beer geeks and beer novices. And again, FREE BEER.

20th Anniversary Month for Blue Nile

10/5/09 Update ~ A Fuggles dry-hopped firkin of Summit Oatmeal Stout has been added to the bevy of beers.

Those of you with Twitter and/or Facebook or who lurk on BeerAdvocate, may have already seen Al’s announcement about events for Blue Nile’s 20th Anniversary.  But for the rest of you who avoid the seemier side of social networking (hee hee hee), here’s the scoop (from Al’s BA post).

Blue Nile 20th Anniversary, month of Beer Events

Greetings, everyone. October, 2009 marks the 20th anniversary since the founding of the original Blue Nile restaurant at Lake and Lyndale (we’ve spent the past 13 years at the current location). It’s also the 10th year that I’ve been running the bar here, and to celebrate these milestones, we’re doing not one, not two, but 4 beer events, the final 4 weekends in October.
Next Weekend, October 9, 10, & 11 is “Drink Local”, with all Minnesota beers, featuring Surly Wet, Flat Earth Mummy Train & Black Helicopter, August Schell 1905 VT, and more from Summit and others.
October 16, 17, 18 is Part Two of Battle of the Belg, with some of the Belgian brews returning from Part 1, as well as some brand new ones, new styles, etc.
October 23, 24, & 25 is Hop Heads Only Redux, all IPAs and hoppy brews on tap.
October 30, 31, & November 1 is the return of “Ale Saint’s Day.” But of course, it won’t be called that, because it’s also on Halloween and Halloween Eve. All stouts and porters on tap, including Darkness 2008 and 2009, aged Expedition, Sinebrychoff Porter, Nogne-o Porter, and more.
Much of the details of the line-ups for these beer-stravangas are still being worked out, so stay tuned. We’ll get some firkins, for sure, but as yet, their identities are unknown. Check back for more info!
Cheers,
al

Lift Bridge and Stillwater Harvestfest

UPDATE!!!  Dan, thanks for the comment.  I also received an e-mail from Laura @ The Chef’s Gallery (thanks Laura!).  In addition to the Summit, Schell’s and Finnegan’s that Dan mentioned in his comment, Laura informed me that the beer event will include New Belgium, Magic Hat, Rogue, Steamworks (thanks JJ Taylor) and Rush River.  Hohenstein’s may be adding a few to the mix as well.

Thanks to the gang at Lift Bridge for bringing to our attention the 3rd Annual Stillwater Harvestfest.  The event is this coming Saturday, 10/10, from 10 A.M. until 4 P.M.  There will be a Beer Tasting from 12 to 3 ($20 advance, $25 day-of) as well as several other fun fall events.  More details can be found at the respective websites…except for a listing of participating breweries and/or available beers.  The tasting is limited to 350 folks.  I’ve called for a listing of MN craft breweries represented and will update this post when I have it.

UPDATE!!!  Near as I can tell at this point, Lift Bridge will be the featured brewery (and maybe the only brewery).  More to come.
