Founders Flight Night at Pig & Fiddle

This Friday, the Pig & Fiddle will be pouring flights of Founders beers! 3 five ounce pours will cost you $10… I suppose you want to know what beers they’ll have…? Well, they’ll be pouring Kentucky Breakfast Stout, Curmudgeon Old Ale & Red’s Rye Pale Ale. These are a couple of the last barrels of KBS & Curmudgeon left in Minnesota so I wouldn’t miss it!

Winnebabo Craft Brewfest Saturday

Let’s plan your weekend! Hot on the heels of The Beer Dabbler at Pride this weekend is the inaugural Craft Brewfest in Winnebago, Minnesota. Does this fest sound familiar? If so, it’s because festival organizers worked with the legislature this year to give breweries that don’t normally distribute in Minnesota a one-day-pass of sots to allow them to sample their wares at one beer festival a year in Minnesota.

Breweries include Schell’s, Brau Brothers, Third Street, Finnegans, Summit, Grand Tetons, Leinenkugels, Cold Spring, Woodchuck, Angry Orghard, Toppling Goliath, Mantorville, Bell’s, Big Sky, Horny Goat, Sierra Nevada, Breckenridge, Deschutes, Crispin, New Belgium, Mankato Brewery, Atwater, Shock Top, Brainerd Lakes, Shiner, Doc’s Draft, Brooklyn, Lucky Bucket and more.

3-6pm, $20 in advanced, $25 at the gate. A beer garden follows the event from 6-10pm. Proceeds go to support the Winnebago Lions Club.

Surlyapolis? St. Cynic? How about Prospect Park?

The always-awesome BeerPulse has audio from last weekend’s SAVOR event that includes some possible information from Surly Brewing Co.’s Omar Ansari regarding an 8.5 acre tract of land near the U of M. If you’re real estate savvy and feel like hitting the Google maps, feel free to share a link in the comments.

“We have a meeting next week to hopefully nail down a 8.5-acre spot in the middle of the Minneapolis-St. Paul area real close to [the University of Minnesota]. The idea is to bring Linda [Haug] on and have her handle the food component. [The facility will have] a 100-150 seat restaurant, 300-seat beer hall and a two-acre beer garden. […] We ordered a German 100-barrel Rolec system that should be showing up January, 2014.”

This is the closest that Surly has come to revealing any location that they’ve considered since their search for a new site for a brewery & taproom began.

[Update] No comment from the brewery, but reader TripleT suggests that site #2 on this PDF might be a good possibility for a brewery. Only time will tell!

[Update II] Official word from Surly on brewery developments:

Surly has narrowed its list of potential locations for its new brewery to just a handful of options spanning three different cities. In Minneapolis, Surly has two locations on its short list, including a property somewhat near to the University of Minnesota and another location in the Harrison neighborhood, which has publicly courted Surly to be part of its ongoing developments.
Brooklyn Center, the current home to Surly Brewing Company, has proposed options that are the subject of ongoing discussions. In the last couple of weeks Surly has also been approached by another innersuburban location that is substantially larger than the brewery plans, and may change the project scope, but is considered a short list option too.
We are making great strides, but a formal announcement – after due diligence — is still months away. As Surly has said in the past, this is a 100-year decision and location and viability is absolutely key, so it does take time.

Beer Dabbler at Pride This Weekend

In case you hadn’t heard, The Beer Dabbler is hooking up with one of the nation’s largest Pride festivals with a beer & food truck throwdown fit for… well… you. And you and you and you… In any case, it’s this weekend, and you’d be missing out if you weren’t there. 5:30 – 9:30pm in Loring Park, Minneapolis. Tickets are $35 in advanced or $45 at the gates.

  • Access to one of the largest gatherings of Minnesota’s favorite Food Trucks
  • A chance to try some very special food & beer pairings – each Food Truck will offer one menu item specially paired with a local brew. Paired menu items will be $3 each. (Food not included in the ticket price.)
  • Entertainment including DJ Jake Rudh & Apollo Cobra on the Lavender Magazine stage and a chance to dance to your own beat at The Schell’s Silent Disco
  • Games and activities – including a Stanley’s Barroom Dunk Tank with proceeds benefitting The Finnegan’s Community Fund and Real Pirates Treasure Hunt presented by The Science Museum of Minnesota
