The eighth beer in Summit’s Unchained series comes courtesy of Mike Lundell, the brewer also responsible for the third beer in the series,  India Rye Ale. This time around, he’s making a Black Ale. Details below:

Black Ale (still awaiting TTB approval on name, so could change)
Brewer: Mike Lundell
Color: 70 degrees Lovibond

IBU: 65
ABV 6.5

Ingredients:
Malt: 2-row Harrington, Torrified Wheat, Cara Wheat, Midnight Wheat, and Carafa III Special

Hops: New Zealand Pacific Jade, Australian Galaxy

Medium bodied ale with a pronounced citrus/passion fruit/mango aroma, slight astringent/burnt character from the black malt. Think black colored hoppy ale.

The beer will be released late October/early November. More definite dates to come once production is scheduled.

Beer School at Republic

Get yerself some schoolin’ on hump day at Republic (formerly know as Preston’s). And to quench your thirst while yer learnin’ there’ll be $3 pints of Hop Prop.

Come out to the Republic next Wednesday and check out our new venue! I’ll be there from 4pm til whenever, and we’re going to have Dan Schwarz and Trevor Cronk, the co-founders (and two of the brewers) from Lift Bridge Brewing Company.

At 5pm we’ll be tapping a firkin of Hop Prop IPA, with pours for just $3! This is our first event at the new location, so let’s show ’em what us beer schoolers are all about-I’m not leaving ’til that cask is empty!

For anyone who participated in last semester-come out, see some old friends, and have a good time. For anyone interested in Beer School, I’ll be around all afternoon to answer questions.

If you’ve never had Hop Prop on cask, you have to come try it. If you have had it, I don’t need to tell you to be there, you know how tasty this stuff is. I expect to see you all there.

Your friendly Beer School Principal,
Pat Fahey

Bermuda Triangle Tripel Release Tonight

Flat Earth releases their seasonal Bermuda Triangle Tripel tonight at the Bulldog Lowertown. 5pm. Drink up.

Only the finest Belgian grains were brewed with Belgian candied sugar and orange blossom honey from the Bermuda Triangle then aged for several months to produce a bright, golden ale bursting with flavors of lemon, spice, and a touch of that orange blossom honey sweetness. This is an ale that is deceptively smooth and easy drinking, so be careful not to lose yourself in the flavors of Bermuda Triangle.
