Flat Earth Update: Winter Warlock has left the building… er brewery…

Flat EarthSome news from our friends over at Flat Earth Brewing Co. in St. Paul. As an aside, I was relayed a story about a fellow who was fortunate enough to brew with Jeff back in November. He’d never brewed beer before and had a new respect for the craft, and perhaps a few sore muscles from shoving around bags of grain and shoveling mash. Not surprisingly, he had a very good time.

Greetings,

We searched in vain but, we could not find the Winter Carnival medallion this year, hopefully we’ll have better luck next year.

Flat Earth is having its first ever beer dinner! We will be at the Happy Gnome on Tuesday the 5th. The price is $75 a person. We will start with a meet and greet at 6 p.m. Dinner starts at 7 p.m., a 6 course meal pairing 6 Flat Earth beers; Belgian Pale Ale, Element 115, Angry Planet, Cygnus X-1, Bermuda Triangle and Winter Warlock.
Call the Happy Gnome for more detail and tickets 651-287-2018.

Winter Warlock kegs have left the building. This is a very limited run of Golden English Barley-wine. Smooth as freshly resurfaced ice with a mellow malt and hop flavor. Enjoy this 9% barley-wine slowly. Bottles should be out in a few weeks.

Hi Ryan! This came together last minute, but might be of interest! Thanks! Tony/Grumpy’s NE

Friday, February 1st marks the beginning of a month long celebration of our 10 year anniversary. Surly Brewing is going to help us get the month started right. If you come to Grumpy’s NE this Friday, Feb 1st around 4 pm or so, you will have access to this sweet beer. Surly Two, Surly’s 2nd anniversary beer. Fresh tapping. oh, but wait. Just for the hell of it, Omar is bringing a firkin of Oak Aged Bender. Rock it.

More good things from Schell’s

Schell’sAs a follow-up to Mag’s post, I’ll add a little more information passed along by Jace Marti… First, expect more posts on the event page than in the past, including photos, etc. Also, Schell’s 150th Anniversary draft series kicks off in two weeks. Schell’s will be producing a new single batch brew every three months from now until their 150th anniversary in 2010. The first beer, 1878 Einbecker Doppelbock, will be released on August Schell’s birthday, February 15th. Other single batches will follow on dates that have historical significance for the brewery as well. Again, these are draft-only and will only be at a limited number of bars. Some of the recipes originate from an old German brewing book that the brewery received after prohibition and others are the brewery’s old recipes, including pre- and post-prohibition. Consumers will also have the chance to vote on their favorite and the winning brew will be brought back as Schell’s 150th Anniversary beer! Pretty cool.

Also, check out the artwork for the new Schell’s Stout. Nicely done!
