Brewing for a Cause

Want to support your community and help a great charity as well as enjoy live music and all-you- can-drink beer?  Come to The Onion’s Brewing For A Cause, Thursday, May 10th at O’Gara’s Bar & Grill.

Your $15 cover will get you all the beer you can drink from beer sponsors and live music.  A silent auction running throughout the evening features gift cards, concert tickets, autographed memorabilia and more from local restaurants and businesses. Silent auction winners will be announced at 9:45 p.m.

All proceeds from the door and silent auction will go to We Can Ride. The We Can Ride program, which celebrates its 25th year this year, provides therapeutic horseback riding and carriage driving to individuals living with disabilities. A horse’s gait, similar to the human walk, helps strengthen spine and pelvic muscles, improves posture and coordination, and increases joint mobility. Over 70 individuals are currently on the waiting list patiently waiting their turn to benefit from this unique form of therapy. In order to decrease this waiting list and expand the program, We Can Ride is excited to announce two new locations: the University of Minnesota, which will
open in the fall of 2007 and Chevalle in Chaska. The funds raised at Brewing For A Cause will help to assist with the costs of opening these new locations, pay for feed and care for the horses, and to decrease the class fees for the riders.

So come drink for an actual good cause, not the “good causes” you usually come up with to justify having a couple beers on a weeknight.

Best of the Twin Cities 2007

Congrats to all of our local beer friends who are winners in City Pages’ Best of the Twin Cities 2007:

Best Take Home Brew: Surly Bender & Furious Psst. City Pages… it’s Brooklyn Center, not park…

Best Beer Selection in a Bar: Muddy Pig

Best Irish Pub: O’Gara’s – As I’ve said before, I think this category needs to go. I’m not against Irish-style bars, per se, but there are only so many combinations of the same dishes, the same 4-6 Irish and English beers and lots of dark wood… I’d much rather see brewpubs get a mention. Oddly enough, this year’s winner covers both categories.

Like ’em, hate ’em… those are the results. Enjoy, and congrats to the winners!
