Lil’ MnBeer

Let’s welcome in the newest MnBeer advocate! Laura Noel Anderson was born today at 4:21pm, weighing in at 8lbs, 12oz and 21 inches long.  Dawn and Ryan are good but exhausted, and need sleep more than beer at this point!

Congrats you two!

St. Paul Summer Beer Festival

Juno sent this a couple of days ago… on the verge of Minnesota’s abrupt transition from early fall to winter. He’s either cruel or really funny. In any case…

Save the Date! The 2010 St Paul Summer Beer Fest will occur on June 20th, 2010 from 12pm-5pm. Tickets will go on sale March 21st, 2010 at noon. Last year sold out with over 2000+ attendees. There were over 50 craft breweries from MN and beyond, live music, food, and the fun atmosphere of Midway Stadium of the St. Paul Saints. The 2010 St Paul Summer Beer Fest will be bigger and better (more breweries)!

I had a great time with friends last year at their inaugural event. Word of warning. Bring sunscreen!

Town Hall Release…and more!

The holiday season is upon us, so here come the holiday beers. I am sure you are all fond of the Jolly Saint Nick, we decided to give his little hard working buddies some kudos this year as well.

Santa’s Elves get their own ale this year to kick off the season. “Elves Elixir” is a pale ale that weighs in at a mild 4.8%abv as designed to be a session style pale ale for you to take to your holiday partys. We are trying to help you out, you can have a couple drinks without being “that guy/girl”.

So holiday will work something like this.
Beers you will see (subject to possible change):
Elves Elixir , Festivus Mocha Stout (chocolate and coffee this year), Grinch’s Grog, 1800, Angel’s Abbey, Wee Heavy

We hope to have a release again next week (Monday) depending on consumption and will certainly have at least 3 of these beers pouring by Monday, 12/21. Monday 12/21 will be our annual Holiday fire and Festivus release. We will build a fire and mull some ale for you as our thank you for your patronage (fire 5-7, mulled ale on the house while supply lasts).

Growler Holiday Packs will again be available beginning 12/21 (buy the three named and save $3 on your purchase)

Check out the new Town Hall merchandise and consider one of our holiday merchandise packs for that avid beer lover on your shopping list. (Really you should check it out….soft male and female winter wear, fancy gold leaf glassware with a stem, etc.)
Lots of info for you….more details to follow.

Best come to the brewery today and get some “Elves Elixir”….don’t you think?

Granite City Batch 1000

Bob McKenzie from Granite City dropped us a line with the lowdown on Batch 1000, which will be tapped at all Granite City locations on Monday. Assuming MNBeer Jr. doesn’t arrive this weekend, I’ll be crossing the street after work on Monday for a sample in St. Louis Park.

…this is either a Huge IPA, or a Light Double IPA, depending on your 1/2 full or 1/2 empty view point. We brewed it with large amounts of Cascade and Summit hops. The Summit was primarily for bittering, then the Cascade for Flavor/aroma and dry hopping. For malt we used a mix of 2 row, dark crystal and wheat malts. It has an OG of 1068, the fermentations have proceeded nicely, it turns out our yeast likes hops as much as our brewers, and we are looking at a finishing strength of around 7.5% abv.

If folks haven’t been to a Granite City for a while the beer should be a worthwhile reason to stop in. We still fill growlers for $5 on Tuesday’s and Thursdays, so choose your day and save some cash. One final request, if you enjoy this beer please let the management at the restaurant know.

Thanks,

Bob McKenzie,
Brewery Field Manager

Winterfest Sold Out in 8 Minutes!

Less than 20 minutes after noon, Laura (Winterfest, Arborfest and Autumn Brew Review’s event guru) e-mailed me to tell me that all 700 Winterfest tickets sold out in 8 minutes. 8 minutes! Damn!

My deepest regrets to those of you who wanted tickets but weren’t able to get them. I wish you better luck next year. For those of you who received tickets, congrats! Meet me for a sample or three at the History Center in February!

And for those of you trying to turn a buck on eBay or Craigslist, King Gambrinus is frowning upon you.
