That time of the year is upon us, colder weather, falling autumn leaves, hops ready to harvest on the vine, and yes, the beer that gets its own fest designation: oktoberfest. We brewed this malty beverage in the German brewing tradition (double decoction mashing) and have been lagering this annual brew for the last 4 months and now it is time to release it to your glass. Tawny amber in color, malty to taste and subtle on hops with a clean lager finish. Come out this Thursday and help celebrate with us as we serve up a modest German menu coupled with $3.00 pints of this year’s Oktoberfest from 8-10pm. Prost!

You probably heard about the recent fire in one of the old Hamm’s Brewery buildings. Sometime before that, a group of Twin Cities urban adventurers, The Action Squad paid the old brewery a visit. Though many of us never had a chance to visit the brewery (and never will, for that matter) we can live vicariously through the Action Squad. They’ve got some great photos of the innards of this wonderful old Minnesota landmark.

You may or may not have seen these two sites before… regardless, Minneapolis Happy Hour and St. Paul Happy Hour are good resources for info on happy-hour drinky-drink discount information. And after a hard week of not working, I’m about ready for a Friday happy hour.

MNBeer.com is looking for a handful of individuals to take part in keeping MNBeer.com fresh. Basically we’re looking for people that enjoy beer as much as we do. Members will add cool links, news and events to the main page of the site. Homebrew club members are especially encouraged to take part as are folks from outside of the Twin Cities.

Requirements? A drive to share cool beer-related information as well as the ability to write in complete sentences. Tough, eh? Right now we’re using Blogger to manage the main page so you really don’t need any technical skills to take part… if you can remember a username and password, you meet our “requirements!”

Benefits? Right. We’ll hook you up with an @mnbeer.com e-mail address and any other MNBeer.com swag as it comes along. You have our blessing to try to impress members of the opposite sex by mentioning, “I’m from MNBeer.com…” Uh, good luck with that.
