Sounds like another great one. Really looking forward to this like every year.

  2. Eric says:

love the snowstorm series! can someone explain what a weizendoppelbock is? thanks.

  3. David Berg says:

    Hey Eric-

It’s a hefeweizen (or in this case a dunkelweizen) brewed to dopplebock strength (above 18 Plato). Snowstorm will be 18.5 Plato.

I prefer to call it a Dunkel Doppel Weizenbock, just because it’s fun to say…

Eric, the only beer I have ever seen described as a Weizen Doppelbock is Aventinus.

Dave, is this year’s Snowstorm brewed to be similar to Aventinus? I realize you will have your own take, but wondering if you were thinking of it when you were creating your recipe.

  5. Not to steal anybody’s thunder, but I’ve a BrewFarm-only draft weizendoppel on right now (no dunkel…) called “Kotura”, with the most recent batches having a fresh-hop addition of Centennials. Kids at the Great Taste thought it was OK…

I love Aventinus. So yes, absolutely, that is an inspiration. But Aventinus doesn’t use the new Midnight Wheat malt from Briess!

Dave- I’ll give you a pass on the thread jack because A) I know you B) I like you and C) It’s no doubt a damn good beer. Where’s my growler?

    @ FarmerDave

Kotura, of course! I think I had a sample of just a bit before the keg blew the last time I was there (and also, I needed to add a ‘missing brew’ to my mental list of what was on tap that day : )
