Tallgrass 8-Bit Release Party

Bryant Lake Bowl. 5:30-9pm Thursday.

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, (Select) Start…

This cheat code takes you through a secret tunnel and into the doors of the famed Bryant Lake Bowl for a very special tapping of our newest beer release…”8-Bit”.

8-Bit is our super rad hop-rocketed Pale Ale w/ Galaxy Hops out of Australia. These hops bring a unique melon, and tropical fruit-like character to the beer.

Musical guests will be Nerd Enhanced Sound (NES) which will be recreating the fantastic world of 8-Bit sounds while you play along to your favorite video games on the big screen in the theater.

For every 8-Bit ordered, you will receive a Zelda-style coin purse, containing rupees (or POISON, so be careful!) to bring next door to our friends at Rusty Quarters to play one of 3 arcades, chosen by us.

Snap a pic of your high score and bring it back to add to the board. We’ll be handing out some major slammin’ prizes for the winners.

This night is going to be fun to the MAX! So please mark your calendars for next Thursday and tell your friends.

We can’t wait to bring you our new beer!

Peace, love, and LEVEL UPS!

Growlers Fills at Liquor Stores?

Our friends over at Minnesota Beer Activists shared the story earlier, and it’s one that we’ve been following for a week or so. It’s an interesting proposition, but not Here’s the language of H.F. No. 2432.

An exclusive liquor store, with the approval of the commissioner, may be issued an off-sale license by a municipality for off-sale of malt liquor filled at the tap and packaged consistent with the requirement of section 340A.301, subdivision 7, paragraph (b), by the licensee on the licensed premises. The malt liquor must be made available to the licensees in kegs or barrels by a wholesaler or manufacturer and be otherwise not available in Minnesota by can or bottle. All local ordinances and state provisions relating to public health are applicable.

As written, this would allow liquor stores a chance to fill growlers of kegged beer, providing it isn’t already available in Minnesota in a packaged form. So as an example, under the law you could buy a growler of Lucid Camo from your favorite beer store, but Surly Darkness would be a no-go. And with regards to growlers at brewpubs & breweries, this wouldn’t change a thing.

Launching this kind of operation won’t come without its costs, however. Stores will have to adhere to health standards and will need to invest in the proper cleaning systems, growlers and labeling equipment. And then there’s the labor. Don’t expect this in most stores, though the right store could make this pretty awesome.

What do you think? Would you buy a growler at a beer store? Would you be disappointed if the store couldn’t fill a growler of Flat Earth Rode Haring for you? How many beers a year could actually be filled with the language as-is?

Schell’s Stag Series No. 5: Czech-style Dark Lager

Number 5 in Schell’s Stag Series is being brewed today. They refer to it as a Czech-Style Dark Lager. Look for it in April. details from Schell’s below:

Background
The Czechs are famous for the golden lagers of Pilsen and Budweis, but also have a history of dark versions. While some have a dark red hue, and are typically identified as “garnet”, there are also versions that are closer to black with a rich, spicy flavor. The most famous in that vein is the house beer at U Fleku, the 15th-century brewpub in Prague, and oldest brewpub in the world.

Info/Flavor Profile
Stag Series #5 is modeled after the famous dark lagers of Bohemia. Our version features dark bread and caramel flavors that are accentuated by a decoction mash, and balanced by the spicy Saaz hops.

Ingredients:
Malts: Floor malted Bohemian Pilsner, Light Munich, Caramunich, Carabohemian, Carapils
