Ryan Anderson (that's me!) is the editor & founder of MNBeer. Much has changed since the fall of 2005 and I'm proud to have been a part of it all. Sometime I'll tell you about my grand theory that links craft brewing to punk rock. Just ask.

Mikkeller Tasting at Heritage

Mikkeller. Heritage. Tonight. Drink up, buttercup!

We’ve all seen the staggering array of Mikkeller beers on store shelves, but how many of them do we ever get to try? Well, now is your chance to see why these beers are at all the top beer stores and worth every penny you pay. We’ll be pouring samples of Beer Hop Breakfast, 10, Hoppy Easter and Chipotle Porter, all of these will also be 10% off during the tasting.

Mikkeller was started by two young Denmark home brewers, who in a few years went from hobby brewing at home in the kitchen to national and international recognition. Since August 2007 Mikkel Borg Bjergsø has run Mikkeller on his own and is a gipsy-brewer, brewing at different breweries in Denmark, around Europe and the United States. Their success is partly due to their focus on creating challenging beers that test boundaries and partly putting quality before quantity. In other words, uncompromising beer.

Our Thursday night tastings run from 5-7PM.

Winner Winner Beer For Dinner

Thanks to City Pages for giving us our third Best of the Twin Cities award this week for “best local website.” It’s an honor. That being said, the credit came heavily in my (Ryan) direction. The truth is that the site is much, much more than my baby at this point and just wouldn’t be what it is today without our contributors.

So please raise a beer (who cares if you’re at work?) to Eric, Kat, Kris, Mag & Truthbrew… and all of the beer geeks that visit the site with a thirst for beer news in Minnesota!

And, uh, is it really time for a redesign?

Congrats also to our friends at Surly, Town Hall, Muddy Pig, The Hanger Room, Bryant Lake Bowl, Triple Rock Social Club, Grumpy’s, Haute Dish, Moto-i, Common Roots, Victory 44, Washington Square and Blue Max for being chosen as winners by City Pages. Also of note, our friends at Heavy Table, Bryant Lake Bowl, Blue Door Pub, Surly, Merlin’s Rest, Muddy Pig, Haute Dish and Pizza Luce who made the cut as some of the Reader Poll winners.

Vine Park F.B.X Series

This sounds cool… Vine Park has teamed up with Furthermore to do some collaborative Belgian Wittes. They’ll be releasing them one by one in growlers. All beers come from one brew session but have been fermented with different yeasts. Try them all? Okay, if you insist…

…and though we promised we’d shut our mouths beyond saying that the F and B do not stand for “Furthermore” or “beer,” Furthermore’s Facebook posting lets the cat out of the bag… Fatty Boomblatty is indeed the base beer for these wittes.

Hay Lake School Beer Tasting

I don’t know a lot about this event, though it might be worth checking out. The event benefits the Washington County Historical Society. Brent Peterson will give a presentation on the history of Washington County breweries followed by a tasting. Admission is $10. Event Sponsored by Barley John’s, Lift Bridge, Pig’s Eye, Still-H2), Stillwater Brewing, Summit and Surly.

Museum is located at the corner of Old Marine Trail & County Road 3, just south of Scandia.
