State Fair Guide for Monday

There’s your tip of the day. The Fair does have drinkable water, and as much as we respect (and often support) your right to substitute water with beer, it may hurt the next day, even at 2.8%. Thanks to Joe for willingness to serve as a guinea pig.

Check out the Minnesota Craft Brewers Exhibit in the Ag. Building.

3:00pm: Hop Agriculture in Minnesota – Charlie Rohwer, PhD, U of M Scientist. Charlie’s job is cooler than your job. Among other things, he’s a hop researcher with the U of M. You can read more about him here.

6:00pm: Beer Tourism – Dan Justesen, Vine Park Brewery. This is another presentation that’s definitely worth checking out. Dan is no stranger to beer tourism. For the

Bemidji Brewing Update

Bemidji Brewing Co. now has their federal brewing notice, which allows them to work through the state portion of licensing. If all goes as planned, they’ll be brewing sooner than later at the kitchens of Harmony Food Co-Op in Bemidji. We’re wrapping up our own interview in the next week or two, but for not check out a quick story from Lakeland news.

Band of Brewers Print

A friend shared this with me today and it was too cool to not pass on.

From the artist’s website:

I recently completed this very large pencil drawing highlighting 8 great craft brewers in Minnesota.  Pete Rifakes of Town Hall Brewery in Minneapolis was the man behind the idea.  He allowed me to create  a drawing that might be the first of its kind in Minnesota. (maybe the free world!)

Thanks to all of the craft brewers who participated.  It was fun to travel the state and meet everyone.  In no particular order, here are the breweries that participated; Town Hall Brewery-Minneapolis, Summit Brewing-St. Paul, Fulton Brewery-Minneapolis, Surly Brewing Company-Brooklyn Center, Schell’s Brewery-New Ulm, Fitger’s Brewhouse-Duluth, Steel Toe Brewing-St. Louis Park and last but not least, Lift Bridge Brewing of Stillwater.

Rumor has it that the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild will have the original drawing displayed as part of their State Fair exhibit this year.  Look for the display in the Ag/Hort Building.
