Fulton June Events

Here’s what we’re up to this month. Be sure to keep an eye on our website and Facebook page, as we add new events all the time.

Tuesday, June 8th: Pizza Luce Downtown is featuring our beers this month, which means $3 pints for you! Luce DT is a great place to grab a slice and a pint before a Twins game, which is exactly what we’ll be doing from 5:00 to 7:00 on the 8th.

Tuesday, June 15th: As you (hopefully) know, patio season is in full swing by now. The Longfellow Grill has one of the best, and what better way to celebrate it than with a Lonely Blonde? Join us for one (or more) from 6:00 to 9:00. And why not bike there? Longfellow is just off the Greenway.

Sunday, June 20th: What better way to celebrate Father’s Day than by taking dad to the St. Paul Summer Beer Fest? Join us and 70+ other breweries for one of the best beer festivals in the Twin Cities. Visit www.saintpaulsummerbeerfest.com for more information and to purchase tickets.

Tuesday, June 29th: We’ll be heading to Cherokee Tavern for a beer dinner. Beer dinners are all great, but they can be dollar–and calorie–intensive affairs. Cherokee is putting together a lighter offering with 3 courses: a Lonely Blonde & fruit/cheese pairing, Sweet Child of Vine matched with a Fulton Vinaigrette salad, and a peach cobbler with a peach-infused Sweet Child of Vine. It’s only $30 per person, tax & tip included, but be sure to call ahead early–there are only 25 slots available.

Other Going-ons in the Fulton world…
In addition to brewing beer, drinking beer, and talking about beer, we have a number of other projects going on–all beer related, of course. One we’re particularly pleased to be a part of is the Randy Shaver Golf Classic. Each year, the Randy Shaver
Cancer Research and Community Fund puts on a golf tournament to raise money for cancer research. In 2009, they awarded over $300,000 in grants. This year, Fulton is the beer sponsor of the golf tournament. It’s a great event for an extremely
important cause. To find out more about how you can help, visit randyshavergolf.com.

We’re also tinkering with a few other things around the garage. There will be some sweet new Fulton apparel available in the next month or so, so be sure to check for it at our website from time to time.

Shhh! We’re also designing our packaging for bottles–a fun project, to be sure, but don’t get too excited just yet, as bottles won’t be available until at least this fall. The people have spoken, and they’ve asked for bottles. We’ve heard the
call, but we appreciate everyone’s patience–it’s a slow process, and believe us when we say nobody is more excited than us to have Fulton available in bottles.

What else might you see in the future? Well, depends on how far into the future you’re looking. We’re working hard right now on finding a brewery space in Minneapolis, revamping our website, brewing more beer…the list goes on and on. In fact, the
list is so long that we’ve had to push back our goal of having Fulton available on the moon until at least 2050. But rest assured–you’ll always be able to grab one on tap in the Twin Cities between now and then.

Fulton Lonely Blonde at King’s

Greetings!

We get a lot of requests about when we’re releasing our next beer and what it will
be. Well, ask and you shall receive–this time, anyway. Tomorrow (Thursday, June
3rd), we’re releasing our second full-time beer, the Lonely Blonde. An American
style blonde ale, the Lonely Blonde is so named because it is one of the only examples
of the style to be found locally. Though the Blonde is American born and raised,
its distinct old world roots are clear, thanks to the three German hop varieties
we add during the boil. The Lonely Blonde is an exceptionally balanced beer, light
enough for the hottest summer day, but complex enough to keep you company any day
of the year. So, if you see a Lonely Blonde at the bar, be sure to stop and introduce
yourself–it just might be the beginning of a beatiful relationship.

Vine Park News

Not that it will do you any good at this point, but Vine Park celebrated their fastest-selling growler batch ever with their Cuvee de Beertrips which just sold out. Those of you attending the AHA National Conference may still be in luck as they’ve saved a keg for the event. VP describes this beer as a “boundary bending style of Belgian malts and yeast combined with Czech hops overlaid with American hops…”

Vine Park also rolled out a new beer this week, 100% EVIL IPA. “A full bodied American West Coast style India Pale Ale that is brewed with 100% Centennial hops from beginning to end. No little bit of this or a little bit of that, this beer is 100% Evil. Nothing good about it but the taste.”

This beer is available in growlers and the Vine Park crew will also sample it at St. Paul Summer Beer Festival. It will also be added to the recipe list available to Vine Park customers to brew their own batch.

Finally, Something to Get Bitter About!

Finally certain Tweets from certain brewers about their “gimmicky” beers makes sense!!!  The June 2010 issue of Twin Cities Business (hard copy only for now, Dan Haugen authored it) has a brief  but interesting write-up on Minnesota’s bitterest beers (yeah, yeah, I’m sure YOU’VE made a more bitter beer, but you ain’t selling it in stores, is ya?).  You’ll have to track down a hard copy of the rag to read the article, but let me play spoiler for you.  Wondering what, per this article, Minnesota’s top five bitter beers (by IBU, of course) are?

5)  New-comer Fulton’s Sweet Child of Vine grabbed the 5th spot at 70 IBUs, just edging out Summit’s IPA and Horizon Red at 65 IBUs.

4)  Dem dere Brau Bros. oudda Lucan hold de 4th spot wit dere Sheep Head Ale at 88 IBUs.

3)  Wondering why you can’t taste your lutefisk after drinking Surly’s Furious?  Well, it’s position in the 3rd spot at 99 IBUs should answer that question.

2)  Living in the Limelight with the 2nd most bitter beer in Minnesota (after recently holding the first spot until #1 was brought back to the market as a retail-available beer) is Flat Earth’s Northwest Passage IPA at 115 IBUs.  Yup, it curls toes.

1)  And sitting firmly atop the bitter pig-pile is Surly’s Abrasive at 120 IBUs.

Anywho, find a copy of the June issue to see the who holds the 8th-12th spots.
