Steel Toe Size 11 Returns

Steel Toe Size 11…call me a cab. Steel Toe Brewing’s Size 11 Triple IPA returns starting with a release party at Muddy Waters on Wednesday, May 15th starting at 6pm. If you can’t make that, it’ll be available at the taproom starting on Thursday (3-8pm).

And on that note, you may as well plant your ass in SLP as on Friday, May 17th they’ll have some special barrel-aged beers on tap for your imbibing pleasure. How does barrel-aged Dissent, barrel-aged Wee Heavy and a little Lunker sound?

Need a bottle of Size 11? Saturday is your day… Steel Toe will have 750ml bottles of said beer ready for you to buy at noon on Saturday. Cheers!

Stanley’s NE Craft Beer Festival and Block Party

stanleysartStanley’s NE aims to make your Art-a-Whirl experience just a little better. Okay, perhaps a lot better. On Saturday, May 18th, they’re blocking off Lowry and planning a day filled with beer, music, food, photo booths, hand rolled cigars, pretzel necklaces, hammerschlagen and more. Doors open at 1pm and the beer festival portion of the event runs from 2-5pm with live music from Orange Whip from 4:30-9:30pm in Stanley’s parking lot. Tickets are $59 and include the requisite sample glass as well as a glass lanyard, signature photo w/ your friends, $15 Stanley’s gift card and build-your-own pretzel necklaces.

Breweries include Summit, Schell’s Brewery, Fulton, Finnegans, Indeed Brewing, Northgate Brewing, 612 Brew, Surly, Cold Spring Brewery, Lucid Brewing, Founders Brewing, Fox Barrel Cider/Crispin, Odell Brewing, Deschutes Brewery, Brooklyn Brewery, Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas Brewing Company, Alaskan Brewing Company, New Belgium Brewing, Bells Brewery, Goose Island, North Coast Brewing and more.

Every time I hear progress of one of our locals (especially one that my gullet has so much history with, I beam with a little bit of pride. Here’s some video of the progress of Summit’s cellar expansion. That’s one hell of a fridge! Way to go Summit!

Bathwater Beer and Taxes

Whoops. Regarding the proposed excise tax increase on beer, representative Kurt Zellers drew some grief at home for this quote:

“To say that it’s only seven cents a beer, that’s like promising a case of Summit to the party and showing up with that bathwater called Leinenkugel’s,” and went on to say “It’s not a fair deal at all. Good Minnesota beer for Wisconsin bathwater, no sir.”

When he returned to the house, he came with an apology. Apparently his wife is quite a fan of Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy.

“The little joke I played last night got me in trouble at home last night. So most importantly, my apologies to the Leinenkugel family. They are a great family-owned business. But as it usually goes at our house, ‘I’m sorry, honey.”

Of course Leinenkugel’s is owned by SABMiller. And while I wouldn’t call their beer “bathwater,” Summit would be preferred in my world. My suggestion? Someone should send his wife a case of Schell’s Shocked Radler and be done with it.
