I’m Counting Down to the SSBF; Are You?

That’s right, the official countdown until the St. Paul Summer Beer Fest on June 25 begins today.

Well, at least for me it does. It’s a mere 30 days away and while the complete brewery list has yet to be released, you can expect most of the same incredible line-up from last year, plus we’re told some “additional exciting brands.”

The music has been announced tho: Jack Brass Band to go along with Como Ave. Jug Band and new additions to this years fest, the Erik Koskinen Band and Chooglin’. Trust Mark and Juno to nail the tunes.

VIP tix are long gone, but there are still a few remaining general admission tix left. Get em while the going’s hot. They won’t last forever, especially when you learn about the set-up they got planned at the State Fair Grounds. Like I said, I’m counting down…

Brewing TV #37: Happiness is a Warm Carboy

New episode from our buddies at Brewing TV. We’re heading back to Chip’s homebrewery for a brew session and warm fermentation experiment. He’s joined by fellow homebrewer Don Osborn for some discussion and tasting notes. Then Jake & Mike sit down with the kellerbier version of the double decocotion dunkel from a few episodes back. And a Sing-along? Awwhh yeah.

May 17th @ Heritage Liquor. Live Oak and Wild Yeast: Featuring Bryan Bertsch

Wild beer and locally made, oak fermented kombucha….. MMmmmmmm…..

Tonight  (May 17th) at Heritage Liquor, local Kombucha brewery Bryan Bertsch will share his St. locally made Kombucha – the hard tea popularized in Asia. Bryan ferments this kombucha in oak at his St. Paul based brewery.

Also being poured are a selection of traditional wild beers from Jolly Pumpkin (Michigan) and Hanssens (Belgium) along with a great farmhouse beer from Brasserie de Blaugies (Belgium).  Copies of the just released 2nd edition of Lambicland (Tim Webb) will also be available to purchase at the event.

Brewing TV #36: Gone Firkin

Latest episode from Brewing TV gets hands-on with firkins at Summit Brewing Company. Cask ale is a segment of craft beer that is becoming more and more popular with beer-lovers in the United States. But many of us have no idea how it works. Hosts Jake Keeler and Michael Dawson are put to work by Summit’s Chief Firkin Hooligan Damian McConn. The guys help Damian finish, fine, dry-hop and fill firkins of his Unchained Series beer, Golden Sovereign. Come along with us for a behind-the-scenes look at how the pros get their cask on!
