Four Firkins Grand Opening Ceremony

Star Wars, bagpipes, Pedal Pub and ribbons…..yes it’s the Four Firkins Grand Opening Ceremony.

Oh, and there’s beer. Samples from local brewers Summit, Schell’s, Brau Brothers, Fulton, Lift Bridge, Flat Earth, Dave’s Brew Farm and Steel Toe, pours from a six liter bottle of St. Feuillien Tripel and samples of Deus.

The rough schedule (so far) includes:

6:00pm: Ribbon cutting ceremony with Twin West Chamber of Commerce.

6:05pm: Inside for very loud rousing music (Star Wars) and inspiring speeches with free samples of Deus.

6:10pm: Dennis Skrade will play a couple of tunes on his Bagpipes from the center of the “Abbey Register” as the free samples begin to flow.

6:10pm: Brewers and brewery owners in attendance will include: Summit, Schell’s, Brau Brothers, Fulton, Lift Bridge, Flat Earth, Dave’s Brew Farm and Steel Toe. They will be here to pour free samples and join in the celebration.

6:10pm: Lanny Hoff, Minnesota’s only Beer Knight and owner of Artisanal Imports will be here with a six liter bottle of St. Feuillien Tripel which we will sample out and then everyone can sign the bottle.

6:15pm: Al Boyce and his mates will be here with the Pedal Pub which will be giving free rides to Steel Toe Brewery and back.

Note: due to the anticipated large turnout for this event we will have I.D. checkers stationed at both entrances. Nobody under 21 years of age will be permitted. Sorry, no children or infants either, it will be too crowded.

Four Firkins is a decent store. There are a few things that bother me. A few of the members of the staff border on pretentious, which is one of the worst parts about craft been in general is the jerky people that consider themselves beer experts, and many times I can drive over to another local shop and buy the same beer for less. Besides these two things it’s an alright shop and I commend then for at least making a shop dedicated to beer and having regular samplings. Nothing is perfect.
