The kick-off for the Twin Cities NATIONAL MEAD WEEKEND will be the Mead Dinner at the Happy Gnome on Thursday, July 31 at 6pm.

Happy Gnome Executive Chef Matthew Hinman will prepare and serve a six-course feast paired with SEVEN meads from White Winter Winery, featuring fish, wild game, and local seasonal fare. A “meet and greet” will start promptly at 6pm with a selected White Winter mead.

* Ken Schramm, author of “The Compleat Meadmaker” will be on hand to talk about mead tasting.

* Jon Hamilton, meadmaker at White Winter Winery of Iron River, Wisconsin will be present to talk about each of his meads.

* Chef Matt hopefully can be coaxed to speak about his choices in creating the pairings.

I used to work for Jon Hamilton at White Winter Winery. He’s an incredible mead (and brackett) maker, and he’s a really cool guy with a great sense of humor. And his wines are delicious!

  2. Steve says:

White Winter is the best commercial mead producer I’ve encountered.

    All their mead is good.

I had the good fortune to attend the Happy Gnome/White Winter mead dinner, and I sat with Jon Hamilton and Ken Schramm. The company alone was worth the $70, but the dinner and mead (tax AND tip INCLUDED) was a STEAL! Check out the photos at http://www.mnbrewers.com/2008MeadWeek/ ” .
