Barley John’s Maibock Release

It’s May and Barley John’s is rolling out the Maibock…

We will be celebrating the first day of May with the release of our annual Maibock. This Tuesday enjoy $2 glasses of Maibock from 4-8pm. The kitchen will also be conjuring up some German menu fare to go along with the release. Our outdoor patio is now open, so come on up and enjoy a glass of Maibock this Tuesday! (**note: there will be no cask this week due to the Maibock release party)

Maibock (8%abv): This traditional German lager is brewed back in Febuary to give it an appropriate amount of time to age – it is one of 3 lagers that we do every year because of the aging time. We brewed this beer in the traditional double decoction brewing style that releases a multitude of malty flavors characteristic of the style. A fiery orangish hue from the use of German Munich malt and hopped with German Hallertau. We cold lagered this beer for 4 months to allow the flavors to come together, it was well worth the wait!

Finnegan’s Summerfest

On June 9, 2007, the Finnegan’s Community Fund and the Minneapolis Jaycees are hosting the first annual FINNEGAN’S SUMMERFEST from 1:00pm to 2:00am at The Cabooze and surrounding area on Cedar Avenue . The proceeds from this amazing music event and block party will benefit Heading Home Hennepin, an ambitious initiative to end homelessness in Minneapolis and Hennepin County within 10 years.

You simply can’t afford to miss this amazing lineup of local talent, all brought together for a common cause. This all-day block party, lasting from 1:00pm to 2:00am at the Cabooze and surrounding area on Cedar Avenue in Minneapolis, features an incredible collection of local artists on outdoor and indoor stages including Dave Pirner and the Volunteers, Mark Mallman, Tim Mahoney, The Alarmists, The Delilahs (reunion), White Light Riot, Vicious Vicious, The Melismatics, Epic Hero, Charlie Parr, The Brothers Frantzich, Joanna James, Billy Johnson, Kevin Bowe, Jeff Arundel, and others.

Brewing for a Cause

Want to support your community and help a great charity as well as enjoy live music and all-you- can-drink beer?  Come to The Onion’s Brewing For A Cause, Thursday, May 10th at O’Gara’s Bar & Grill.

Your $15 cover will get you all the beer you can drink from beer sponsors and live music.  A silent auction running throughout the evening features gift cards, concert tickets, autographed memorabilia and more from local restaurants and businesses. Silent auction winners will be announced at 9:45 p.m.

All proceeds from the door and silent auction will go to We Can Ride. The We Can Ride program, which celebrates its 25th year this year, provides therapeutic horseback riding and carriage driving to individuals living with disabilities. A horse’s gait, similar to the human walk, helps strengthen spine and pelvic muscles, improves posture and coordination, and increases joint mobility. Over 70 individuals are currently on the waiting list patiently waiting their turn to benefit from this unique form of therapy. In order to decrease this waiting list and expand the program, We Can Ride is excited to announce two new locations: the University of Minnesota, which will
open in the fall of 2007 and Chevalle in Chaska. The funds raised at Brewing For A Cause will help to assist with the costs of opening these new locations, pay for feed and care for the horses, and to decrease the class fees for the riders.

So come drink for an actual good cause, not the “good causes” you usually come up with to justify having a couple beers on a weeknight.

The return of Ommegang and Rodenbach, and New Belgium chooses a distributor.

The beers of Ommegang and Rodenbach (Classic and Grand Cru) are now available again in Minnesota thanks to Hohensteins Dist. and Duvel USA. Both will be be available in bottles as well as on draft at your regular quality retailers. Yum.
Also, it appears that New Belgium has curiously chosen JJ Taylor / East Side Dist. (Miller) to bring in it’s 22oz bombers of Fat Tire. Doesn’t appear that any of their other labels will be here, at least in the beginning.
