Summit EPA: World Beer Cup Gold

Congrats to Summit Brewing Co. who took home a gold in the World Beer Cup for Category 52: Classic English-Style Pale Ale for their Extra Pale Ale. It’s a great beer and they deserve the honors. I’ve got to imagine that this beer served as many Minnesotans’ introduction to hops. Cheers!

I remember Summit back in the day, when it was underground and hidden away in those full-coverage boxes. Now it’s all Hollywood phony-pants winning awards and stuff.

But seriously, I’d love to see some throwback sixer boxes, even if my CD collection doesn’t grow that fast anymore.

Ha, I loved those six pack boxes, they were great for CDs! Blvd still uses them, but who buys CDs anymore?

Those six-pack boxes were also great for my collection of 7″ vinyl punk rock singles. Perfect size.

When I first saw that Boulevard was doing the boxes, I wrote them off as a Summit knock-off…

Congratulations Summit. You make Minnesota proud!

Congrats guys. Honestly, EPA tends to be the forgotten beer for me, but whenever I’m in a place with a fairly poor selection — but with EPA — I always get one and say “Dang! I forget how good this stuff is.” Right now Target Field is tops on my list of places like that.

I’ll be celebrating your well-deserved recognition with several EPAs at Target Field and backyard BBQs this year.

Oh, and since I’m posting, double congrats on your excellent work with the Unchained series so far this past year. Your brewers have really brought some uniqueness to the MN market with those choices. I just had an India Rye Ale at Grumpy’s Roseville tonight — great stuff.

Thanks for the kind words everyone-we are pretty excited about this award at the brewery!

  7. Totally remember the beer boxes… I do still get the ocassional box from Boulevard also. Great memories. Congrats to Summit.
