Schell’s Bockfest 2007

From Schell’s website:

All ages are welcome! We wait all year for this event…one visit and you’ll see why. This is one of our most popular festivals where we brave the cold winds of Old Man Winter and turn our brewery grounds into a celebration of music, food, and of course Bock beer.

  • The Bock Fest Boys will keep us entertained with their raucous brand of “Oom pah” music and humor.
  • Our venerable president and brewmaster Ted Marti will slip out the night before and secretly hide Bock cutouts in the woods for our traditional Bock Hunt….prizes galore await the lucky few who find them.
  • The bonfires will be stoked to keep the chill away….and it wouldn’t be the same without a red-hot iron to poke your Bock beer.
  • The grills will be fired up to serve bratwurst and other tasty foods.
  • The museum and gift shop will be open for visitors.

Come join the fun and festivities, then stay for the New Ulm Fasching celebrations later that evening.

Pumpkin Ale, Kolsch and Sierra Nevada Harvest Ale at Fitger’s

What?! Someone else’s beer at Fitger’s? Yes indeed. Read on:

Hi
Fitgers Brewhouse here with the latest.

Today we put a guest tap on. Something we do rarely. Our friends at Sierra Nevada in California squirreled away 2 kegs of Harvest Ale for us. Harvest Ale is a draft only beer made once a year by Sierra. Harvest is a “wet hop” beer. Wet hop beers use hops right out of the fields. No processing or drying or cureing. In order to get flavor and balance out of these hops about 20 times more must be used. this makes an expensive and labor intensive work of art. We will pour out two kegs of this elixir starting Tuesday Oct 24th. Don’t miss a very rare style of pale ale. The only other example in Minnesota comes out of Town Hall in Minneapolis if you where lucky enough to try Mikes then compare the two.

We are also releasing two more beers this week

Thursday Oct 26 will make the 2006 release of Devil’s Track Pumpkin Ale. We have limited grolwers of this nitro pumpkin ale (around 100) first come first served. The ale uses about 120 lbs of pumpkin infused with a malty red ale.

Friday Oct 27 we will release
Kamloops Kolsch
A German style ale fermented cool and slow to give a lager/fruit type ester. A great alternative to Golden ale.

As always thank you for your continued support.

Cheers
The Brewhouse Gang

Minnesota Beer at the New Twins’ Ballpark

The Minnesota Twins are taking suggestions for their new ballpark. Let’s all push the beer issue… good, flavorful Minnesota beer.

Here’s one suggestion from Brian:

You need better tasting beers. Build a microbrewery into the stadium. Create your own Twins beers. Imagine on a warm summer day a quaffing down a light Harmon’s Hefeweizen’s. At least try to contract in some nice brews, maybe from Granite City, or the Town Hall brewery, locally made here in Minnesota!

Thanks to Brian from the Minnesota Homebrewer’s Association listserv for the info.

As Surly as They Want to Be…

This week is a good week to get Surly, with the release of Darkness and another big surprise that will be revealed on Wednesday.

Darkness will be unleashed this week! Check us out at MacKenzies Pub on Friday, October 27th. We will be pouring Darkness and have a cask of Furious. The cask beer will be free! Show up early to Mackenzies to get a ticket for a free glass of cask beer. Darkness will come out of hiding and reveal itself at Surly Bars mid-week.

Lots of Surly excitement is coming. Check back on this web-site on Wendsday afternoon for the the biggest Surly news since we opened.
