Big news at What Ale’s Thee…

What Ales TheeCheck out the latest podcast from the fellas over at What Ale’s Thee for some interesting news about the Twin Cities first ever specialty beer store. Alvey called me the other week to give me the official scoop. I had been hinting for more details after hearing about it from a fellow bicycle enthusiast while enjoying fermented beverages at a birthday party. In any case, I’ll make you listen/watch to get all of the details, but you can keep your eyes peeled for a new craft beer store in the Twin Cities with an emphasis on local, craft and import beer. They’ll have things like brewery signage, glassware, etc. too. They won’t have hard liquor, crappy beer, 40s, etc. Watch and learn more about The Convict’s Pint.

Do you need Winterfest tickets?

Chris Laumb from McCann’s has a couple of tickets to give away to one lucky person… read on:

I told you it would be good. I have two Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild Winterfest tickets to for a lucky Minnesota beer lover. These babies are worth $45 a piece and the event is sold out.

You ask…what do I gotta do?

Write me a essay about Minnesota beer. Why it’s important to support your local breweries, history, funny stories, etc. Just make it about the great beer in Minnesota.

Email this to be at:

Put “Essay” in the subject line.

You got until Monday, January 28th, 6pm CST

Yes, it’s short notice, but think of it as a good weekend project. I will announce the winner Tuesday, January 29th. Winner will be contacted by email. Of course, I will publish the winning essay on the blog, so try to keep it somewhat family friendly.

Vine Park Update: Growlers, Trips

Vine ParkHere’s some info from Vine Park. Prague in Fall 08! Of course, lots more info at their site.

Quick Update! Last winter we predicted a Spring arrival for our growlers and then found we had a few more hurdles to clear. We have been working diligently with the City of St Paul and our path is looking very clear. As soon as we hit that finish line, we will drop you an email.

Beer and wine is a world industry and that means incredible variety for all of us to enjoy. Today we are announcing a wine from South Africa, adding to wines we have from Chile, Australia, France, Italy and even California.

We have decided to offer trips to the Czech Republic, Ireland, the Alsace region of France, and have considered the possibility of trips to Argentina, Belgium, and even the Pacific Northwest. All of these places offer unique cultures and beverages that have spread across the world.

Brewhouse news

Fitger’s BrewhouseA few random things from Fitger’s Brewhouse… First… Brewhouse Retail store below the Brewhouse in the Fitger’s Complex. More on that after I pay them a visit this weekend. Secondly, if you weren’t aware of this, the Brewhouse offers tours. When? Saturdays at 2 and 3pm. Finally… new beers this week: Park Point Pilsner and Beargrease Brown Ale, a North English style nut brown. I’ll be sure to drink some for all of you on Saturday!
