And the Great Snowshoe Award goes to…

Surly’s Bourbon One! Congrats to Surly and also, thank you for making it. It is a truly fine brew that had to beat out some very stiff competition last night at Winterfest to win. This traveling award will make its way to Surly from Town Hall, who won last year with their Chocolate Raspberry Bourbon Stout.

Couldn’t agree more. I’m glad I drank One early on before my taste buds (and brain) were ruined. I was also super impressed with Rock Bottom. Their single hop IPAs were awesome, as was their triple framboise.

So much good beer… where to start…

  3. Mag says:

Alas, I never got over to Rock Bottom…nor Barley Johns. What a putz.

I was at Winterfest and I just do not see how you can pick out one beer that was head and shoulders above the rest. It is comparing apples to oranges. I did not even vote.

    Hype. Hype. Hype.

I’m a huge Surly fan but thought that their Bourbon one was crap. Most of the beer at the entire event was undrinkable. Two years ago I thought almost everything was great. Winterfest needs to be a lot less like a Stars Wars Convention and a little more about a wide range of beer to taste. Just because its the darkest, blackest and bitterest doesn’t mean its the best.

Hope everyone has fun next year.
I can’t go. I don’t have any thick black framed glasses.

Matt: Stay home and enjoy your Natty Light.

  8. Chad says:

Huh. And I thought the point behind WINTERfest was the multitude of WINTER beers. Silly me.

  9. Mag says:

And what is wrong with Star Wars Conventions??? Don’t make me go all dorky Jedi on you with my stout-flavored light-saber and my thick, black-framed glasses.

Actually, it sounds like you maybe just hit a string of beers that don’t fit your tastes Matt. Winterfest tends to have a lot more of the “big” beers and that’s in keeping with the seasonal style trends. There were plenty of other styles available. I know I had a couple IPAs, a pilsner, an amber, etc. Certainly, if “big” beers aren’t your thing, then you would be better off not going, as you’ve said. Especially if you don’t have a ton-ton to give you a ride home afterwards.

    Admiral Akbar Out!

All of the beers were good. I would have to agree that Rock Bottom has some good beers this time around.

  11. Cecil says:

All the beers were great in my opinion. Man, if you don’t like Winterfest, may King Gambrinus have mercy on your soul.

  12. Barry says:

Next year park your bad self near the cask of Barley Bitter upstairs and drink away.
Have Mom’s phone on speed dial and call her at 9:30 pickup.(It gets crowded with big beer lovers at 10)
