Ryan Anderson (that's me!) is the editor & founder of MNBeer. Much has changed since the fall of 2005 and I'm proud to have been a part of it all. Sometime I'll tell you about my grand theory that links craft brewing to punk rock. Just ask.

Fulton Garage Series: Patience

unnamedI blame Fulton for this one. Ever since the name of their latest Garage Series beer passed through my head, I’ve had Guns N Roses “Patience” in my head. And unfortunately for me, that song is as sticky as George Harrison’s “Got My Mind Set on You.” Yeah, sorry about that.

In any case, Fulton has a new one that’s guaranteed to put a little warmth in your cold hearts. Patience is a barleywine that weighs in at 13.2% abv and 88 IBUs. Supposedly the weather is going to be nice this weekend, so head on down to Fulton after 12 noon and check out their new beer. They’ll have it on tap ($6/10 oz pour) and in bottles to go ($15/750mL).

This is an extremely limited beer – Fulton’s smallest bottling run, in fact. They did just over 200 cases, so get them while you can. Liquor stores will receive small quantities next week and you’ll see a few kegs around town as well.

And now… my Opus. Please sing along.

1, 2 , 1, 2, 3, 4…

*Annoying whistling.*

Fricking cold and I need a beer
Don’t want to go outside
Dude let’s go to Fulton on Saturday
I hear they got a new barleywine
Hope it tastes real good
There is no doubt
I want to drink it now

Hey buddy, take it slow
This beer’s 13 ABV [13.2% actually]
Lets go get a 750 of Patience
Hey Bucko drink it slow
It might just blow your mind
All we need is just a little Patience

etc.

Sour Peated Bancreagie from Brau Brothers

bancreagie

Interesting news… Brau Brothers barrel-aged, a bigger, smokier version of Bancreagie for about 8 months and soured it with lacto. Those of you have been to the taproom in Marshall may have already tried it, but in case you don’t make it to Marshall, Brau Brothers will be bottling this beer any time now.

Summit Unchained Batch 15: Fest Bier

Summit Unchained Fest BierAre they really on Batch 15? It really doesn’t seem all that long ago that the folks at Summit announced the first beer in the Unchained Series. In any case, here it is, the next one in full dazzling RGB tones. This round, brewer Nate Siats (Abbey Ale, Imperial Pumpkin Porter) gets a third crack at the series with the series’ first lager, Fest Bier. Summit says this beer will be feature Czech Pils malt & two varieties of Munich as well as Sladek and Saphir hops. Hop Union alludes to the notion that Czech Sladek hops are the bastard child of Northern Brewer and Saaz hops (my words, not theirs) and that these aroma hops feature a “Fruity flavor profile including hints of peach, grapefruit and passion fruit” (their words, not mine).  Saphir? Think Hallertauer. Kinda’-sorta’. Fest will be 5.5% abv springtime fest bier that should arrive in March after cold-conditioning for 8 weeks.

Beery Christmas to You And All That

cousin-eddie-xmas1

Merry Xmas, Happy Holidays, etc., etc. dear readers! Christmas is a great time to share the gift of beer with loved ones, especially those uninitiated into the world of craft beer. So share your favorite winter warmer or special seasonal with family and friends this year and give the gift of great beer and great cheer.

Thank you all for another year of ridiculous traffic on the site. I still can’t believe this site gets thousands of unique visitors a day, but it does, and I’m thankful for all of you! You’re the ones that drive the site and make it all worth doing. Thanks also to our brewery, brewpub, beer bar, beer store and homebrew friends. Monumental growth in these areas makes what we do with the site all the more exciting and worthwhile.

For me, your fearless “editor,” this has been a year of change. My family added a second child, and my day gig had some new and exciting changes. Needless to say, I’ve been super busy. Thankfully the dust is all starting to settle and I’ll be able to devote more time to craft beer and look at some new permanent help for MNBeer.com. If you’re interested, let me know! Also look for a new design in the next few months.

Thanks again beer friends. Drink up, buttercup!
