Surly Two

EDIT: The event has been moved to The Blue Nile.

Taken from BeerAdvocate…

I just stopped by and saw Jeff and Ted hard at work at the new Acadia Cafe. The new location will be next to Midwest Mountaineering in the old New Riverside restaurant. The location is the corner of Riverside and Cedar in Minneapolis. Seems like their place would be a great place to debut Surly Two. We have penciled in January 23rd to bring out the beer. Look for two along with Darkness 2006! Ted and Jeff squirreled a 1/4 barrel of it away for over a year. See you then.

Penciled in..we’ll edit this post should we receive further details…

2007 beer in review

As I sit here with a tulip of tasty local brew on my left, a small dog curled into a ball on my right and a Powerbook in front of me, I can’t help but ponder snow… er… 2007 and the great beer, great people and great times. For your pleasure, a quick rundown…

January:
I made some predictions for 2007. Some of them came true. 400 or more people enjoyed great beer at Winterfest. Flat Earth Brewing Co. debuted their first beer, a Belgian Pale Ale at the event. I think it’s only fair to say that a good time was had by all. The Upper Mississippi Mash-Out homebrew contest was huge. I volunteered and somehow took home a second place medal as well. Later in the month, we were all a bit surprised by some beer legislation that just didn’t sound quite right… Mpls. St. Paul chose Summit as the best brewery in the Twin Cities. And finally, local craft beer fans What Ales Thee took to the digital airwaves with their first podcast.

For those of you with your panties in a bunch about too much Surly coverage as of late, fear not, here’s some information bout another brewery! (And seriously, if you have feedback, good or bad, you can always e-mail me directly… ryanATmnbeer.com.)

Many thanks to Dennis for the skinny on this one.

Wednesday: Groveland Tap, St. Paul – Summit will be sharing a firkin of Winter Ale, dry-hopped with fuggles.

Thursday: The Happy Gnome, St. Paul – a firkin of Winter Ale spiced with nutmeg and allspice.

Friday: Grumpy’s NE – a firkin of Great Northern Porter with an addition of Belgian chocolate.

This sounds like some firkin fun!
