Strib Article on Hop Shortage

In case you’re not a reader of the Star Tribune or in case you generally just like to look at the pictures and read the comics in the paper (like me), let me point you to an article in today’s Strib about the impact that the hop shortage is having on local brewers.  For anyone who has paid attention to this over the past months, there really isn’t anything new to report.  However, Chao Xiong, the reporter, does a good job in addressing the impact locally.

Schell’s Hefeweizen is on the way…

Schell’sLook for August Schell Hefeweizen on store shelves near you soon. Dave told me that they packaged the beer last week, so no doubt you’ll see it soon.

Schell’s Hefeweizen is made with 60% wheat malts and 40% barley malt. We use an authentic wheat beer yeast culture, which gives the beer a fruity ale character dominated by a citrus-like tartness. A slice of lemon is traditionally served with this type of wheat beer.

Whirly Bird Oatmeal Stout

braubrothers.jpgBrau Brothers’ Whirly Bird Oatmeal Stout is available for your drinking pleasure. Dustin showed me the label at Winterfest – nothing like a big black bird in a roof vent. 🙂

Whirly Bird is our farewell to winter. Big and bold, even for an oatmeal stout, this ale is chewy and complex. A variety of oats, toasted at different levels make up a full ten percent of the malt bill. Add to that roasted barley, crystal malt, and chocolate malt for a well-rounded stout. This ale is a remake of an oatmeal stout served years ago
at the tiny local pub in Lucan.
