Take Cover Quickly–and enjoy a cool pull (at Town Hall)

townhall.jpgChad Bacon, self-described “licensed pseudo meteorologist” at Town Hall is reporting a major summer Thunderstorm headed our way next week. If I recall from similar past weather events, it usually involves copius amounts of honey, orange peel, lemongrass and Belgian candy sugar, but it does tend to knock one senseless, so maybe my memory isn’t serving me correctly.  I’ll leave it to the professionals to describe:

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the following counties, Carver, Anoka, Hennepin, Ramsey and Washington.  Doppler radar and trained weather spotters have observed rotation with baseball size hail and winds in excess of 85 mph.  The track of the storm has followed a path from Meeker through Kandiyohi counties with a straight easterly track.  This storm is extremely dangerous capable of producing a swath of misery, silliness and frivolity, simply taking shelter is not an option.  The National Weather Service strongly recommends enjoying a cool pull, good friends and a quiet prayer as this life altering event approaches.  The damage of this storm will be massive, so please join weather geeks, at Town Hall on the 18th at 5:00pm. It is not a matter of if the T-Storm will hit it is a matter of when.

Oh yeah, and the annual pig roast and bocce tourney is happening this weekend.

The time has come for another pig roast and bocce ball tourney- This coming weekend have some Brewers grain fed roasted pork Sat starting at 4pm.

Catcher in the Rye Tapping

Stop by Rock Bottom Wednesday, August 13 at 6:00 pm for the tapping of their Catcher in the Rye Pale Ale.

For all you baseball fans, Minnesota Twin’s catcher Mike Redmond will be on hand to help brewer Byron Tonnis pour the first pints and will stick around to sign autographs until 7:00.

In case you’re wondering about the beer, Catcher in the Rye is made with 20% flaked rye and designed to start out smooth and malty yet finish with the hops an American Pale Ale should.

A New Brewpub in Ely

I received a nice note from Andy Sakrison regarding his new project, BoatHouse Brewhouse & Restaurant, a new startup brewpub in Ely, Minnesota. Andy used to work in the brewery at Fitger’s Brewhouse in Duluth. I had heard a bit about the project from some other folks involved about a year ago, so it’s cool to see this come into fruition.

They’re up and running and legal to brew. Just don’t show up looking for beer quite yet, give them a couple of weeks to get the taps flowing.
They’ve also got a full bar with a number of micros in the bottle to choose from right now as well as taps of Summit EPA, Bell’s Two-Hearted Ale and Lindeman’s Framboise. Live music on the weekends as well. I look forward to checking it out once the house beer starts flowing.
