Minnesota Beer Dinner With Homebrew Chef Sean Paxton

Beer dinner with homebrew chef sean paxtonThe Better Beer Society is hosting a beer dinner of epic proportions. An all-Minnesota beer dinner is cool in itself, but BBS is turning the proverbial dial to 11 by bringing in famed beer chef Sean Paxton (aka The Homebrew Chef). Paxton is no stranger to world-class beer dinners, having crafted beer dinners for tons of great breweries as well as events like The Great American Beer Festival and the Craft Brewers Conference.

This particular dinner is set to take place on Friday, April 26th at Republic in Uptown. Brewers and owners from Surly, Schell’s, Indeed, Summit and Steel Toe will join Paxton and BBS as they discuss the finer notes of cooking with beer and beer ingredients and pairing beer with food. Tickets are are $90. Call 612-886-2309 to reserve your spot. No doubt this will sell out.

Chop & Brew #5: Irish Beef Stew & Some Tasting Notes

This episode lives up to the series’ name, complete with some Chop AND Brew. First, an Irish Beef Stew to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day (also good for any random chilly evening). Then Chip is joined by local homebrewers Bryon Adams, Chris Paynes and Don Osborn for tasting notes on The Nazz Session IPA and Golden Sunlight Belgian Tripel IPA brewed back in Episode 3. The discussion includes some thoughts on late-addition hops, mid-fermentation sugar additions and mash temperatures.

And who says every batch of homebrew turns out perfect? Not us. See this link for a Lagniappe video in which we taste and try to figure out what went awry with two earlier C&B beers.

SURLY BREWERY TO OPEN IN MINNEAPOLIS

SurlyWell, we were right. Last year in June, one of our sleuthy readers made a pretty good about Prospect Park being a possible location for the new Surly brewery thanks to some information Omar let slip in a video interview. Triple T (if that is his or her real name) dug through some real estate documents to find such a location and Prospect Park it was! Nice work Triple T… as far as we know, he/she was the first to hone in on this location.

Surly Brewing has announced the purchase of a “destination brewery” in the Prospect Park neighborhood of Minneapolis. While the site will require some environmental clean-up Surly hopes to be brewing beer at the new facility in 2014.

The 8.3 acre site is located at the corner of Malcolm Avenue and Fifth Street SE. It is just north of what will eventually become the Central Corridor light rail’s “Westgate” station.
