Video of D-Day & Star Tribune Coverage

Ok ok, one last post on the Darkness day (maybe).

If you were there, you probably saw the WCCO-TV crew working the crowd. Here’s the finished product, as seen on TV tonight. Others were collecting footage as well, feel free to post the links in the comments it you want….Don? Trav? Anyone else?

Update: Videos from Don

Chris Riemenschneider wrote a small tid-bit in today’s Strib about tomorrow’s Darkness sale. I hope his misprint about the time the bottles go on sale–9am, which is when the gates open, not when bottles go on sale (2pm)–doesn’t attract more people to compete with me for a bottle…..

Like the heyday of Cabbage Patch Kids or that pre-Ticketmaster era when real fans (not hackers) could buy front-row concert tickets, Surly Brewing Co. expects a few hundred people to line up outside its Brooklyn Center brewery in the bitter cold Saturday morning for the chance to buy — get this — two stinking bottles of beer. Exactly 480 bottles of Surly’s Darkness brew (750-milliliter size, like wine) go on sale at 9 a.m. for $15 apiece, with a limit of two per person. Is the Russian Imperial stout-style brand really that good? That one should answer itself. Only six more bottles will be available after Saturday. Those will be auctioned off on eBay to benefit Energy Cents, a heating-bill fund for low-income families — the perfect charity, since the lucky Darkness buyers will already have their perfect winter warmer.

A big thanks to Omar, Todd, and the crew for the great planning and thought that went into handling that many Surly fans. They did a lot of work to clear out a large warehouse room which allowed us to wait inside shortly after 9:00, after we received our numbered wrist band. Plus, the wrist band had 5 tabs, good for 5 drinks. They had Coffee Bender, Furious, Bender, and Smoke available.

My friends and I fired up the grill and got a little more not-as-cold-as-at-8:00am time in around lunch.

    cheers.

Oh, sorry for the scary 6:00 am close-up. I was just trying to show what a dedicated fanboy I am. 😉 That previous thread made for some good fodder during the day.

  7. ryan says:

Yup. I say HIGHER! Hell, it’s for charity!

I wouldn’t pay that much for Darkness, though if I was in another income bracket I might think about it for the sake of charity.

Remember, the end of the year is coming and this is a great time for tax write-offs. I know I have a ton of them this year.
