Fitgers Update

Looks like Fitgers is purging all their summer brews, and getting ready for autumn. New on tap starting today:
Breakwater White. “A light wheat ale brewed with coriander and orange peel.”
Apricot Wheat. “Nice marriage of apricot and wheat malt.”

Coming soon:
Cherry Batch 2200. “Sometime in the Sept 11th – Sept 14th range.”
Apostle Apple Ale. “Right after cherry.”

Surly Fest Update

The SurlyFest kickoff happens at Stub & Herb’s bar on Tuesday, September 11th. SurlyFest & Furious pints for $3 and free Surly pint glasses to folks that show up early. A great place to kick things off as Stub and Herb’s will now be focusing on local microbrewed beer. See you next Tuesday.
Oh yeah, cans will hit the liquor stores Tuesday/Wednesday next week. Omar

Fitger’s Brewhouse Update

Fitger’s Brewhouse in Duluth gets a little crazy for the last month of summer (yikes!), with a couple Belgian-style ales:

Yellow Jersey Ale. “A Special German/French style wheat ale brewed for summer bicylcing.”

St IPA. “The flagship IPA of the Burrito Union, we will pour a bit at the brewhouse. Hops and malt with a bit more balance.”

Farmhouse Special Reserve. “Our Belgian-style saison, summer style spices (ginger, corridander, orange peel, grains o’ paradise) brewed with a fruity Belgian yeast and given a long lagering period.”

Blue Label Grande Reserve. “A Belgian-style double abby, malty with notes of plum, raisin and toffee.”

New liquor laws go into effect today

A bunch of new state laws go into effect today, including the oft-reported ability of the State Fair to now sell beer that is not 3.2 (also known as, um, “strong beer.” Sure, whatever.) I’m more interested in the provision alllowing brew pubs and small breweries to now sell 750ml bottles of their wares, like they sell growlers. You can view the other provisions included in the the omnibus liquor bill here.

The Pioneer Press and Star Tribune also mention the State Fair change in articles today.
