Ryan Anderson (that's me!) is the editor & founder of MNBeer. Much has changed since the fall of 2005 and I'm proud to have been a part of it all. Sometime I'll tell you about my grand theory that links craft brewing to punk rock. Just ask.

Deschutes Crafty Ladies Night at Happy Gnome

Deschutes and The Happy Gnome are putting together a special evening of beer, goodies and pampering on Wednesday, July 25th from 6-8pm.  “Beer paired with sweet treats and other tasty food items while being pampered by some local businesses invited to this event just for you. Lots of samples including Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Black Butte Porter, Inversion IPA, Twilight Summer Ale, Green Lakes Organic Ale, Obsidian Stout, Hop in the Dark Cascadian Dark Ale and the brand-new Chainbreaker White IPA. Rumor has it that Barley’s Angels will be involved, too.

Summit Unchained #10 Abbey Ale Release Parties

Summit’s Belgian Abbey Ale release is just around the corner, and the brewery has some great events lined up with brewer Nate Siats. Nate was also responsible for #5 in the Unchained Series, Imperial Pumpkin Porter. For this beer, Siats was able to hone the recipe on Summit’s new pilot brewery, brewing two batches. The final recipe includes Weyerman Abbey malts, and 5000+ pounds of Belgian candi sugar. Can you imagine what 5000 lbs. of candi sugar looks like? From Siats, “For my second Unchained beer, I really wanted to create something I was unfamiliar with, using complex flavors I had never tasted in a malt before. This beer is the perfect example of what Summit’s Unchained Series is all about – being inventive and trying new styles.”

AHA Discount

Are you a homebrewer? Are you an AHA member? If not, you should consider joining. I let my membership lapse, but a pub discount reminder sparked the flame again, so I’m rejoining. Vine Park has been added to their pub discount program with $1.00 discounts on growlers for AHA members. Locally, Fulton, Fitger’s Brewhouse, Granite City, Old Chicago, Rock Bottom, Stout’s and Summit all offer discounts in one way shape or form. On top of that, pubs and other venues across the country have some nice discounts for AHA members.

I also miss getting miss getting Zymurgy magazine. I’ve had a bit of a brewing lapse over the course of the past couple of years, but I’m getting amped to brew something nice very soon. Though they don’t always influence my brews, I’ve always liked reading Zymurgy and BYO to for ideas, tips, etc..

There are a bunch of other discounts as well. Follow this link for info if you’re so inclined.
