Saturday night party…

Okay, so it’s not your traditional Saturday night in MNBeer-land, but I’m going to share my Saturday night plans because I started this site, and dammit, I can.

Tomorrow night I’ll be working & hanging out at Hoigaard’s 3rd Annual Ski Fashion Party to benefit Children’s Cancer Research Fund. This event has consumed many of my office hours over the past week or so, and I’m glad that it’s finally coming to fruition (not to mention that I’ll get to move all of the silent auction goodies out of my office!). So, if you don’t have better plans and feel like throwing $45 at a good charity, come on down to Hoigaard’s at 7pm on Saturday. The food is by brix bistro & wine bar and there will be winter/ski fashion show, dj, dancing, give-aways and a huge silent auction. If you like ski & winter gear, this is the place my friends… silent auction items ranging from downhill ski packages to lift tickets to a 4-day trip to Moonlight Basin… hell, even an opportunity to brew with Jeff at Flat Earth Brewing Co. for a day. There are some other ways to win cool prizes as well… things like $50 at the Happy Gnome (x2, actually), Great Waters, etc., etc.

Did I mention bonfires and s’mores? 🙂 Now for full disclosure, the beer sponsor isn’t one of local craft breweries… we tried, but this weekend just happens to coincide with GABF, so as you can imagine, most of our Twin Cities friends are there. That being said, it’ll still be a good time. I’ll be busy, but it’s good work for a good cause, so if you don’t already have better plans and feel like throwing down $45, come on down… if not, please stop by about 1am as I will probably need a ride home! 😉

Schell’s Bock Fest

Schell’s 2008 Bock Fest will be Saturday, February 2nd. We’ll provide more information as we get it. If wandering around the woods in the heart of a Minnesota winter while drinking beer and looking for the elusive wooden bock seems like a good idea (and it’s Schell’s beer, so, yeah, it’s a good idea), then this is your event.

Bock Fest is once again upon us, and we are working diligently here at the brewery in preparation for the big day. But as we carefully prepare the last kegs of delicious Bock Beer, and sketch out a few more imaginary clues, and we would like to take a minute to fill everyone in on a few things about Bock Fest this year.

The event runs from 11am to 4:30pm, with the gates opening at 10:45am. It’s ALL OUTSIDE, so please dress for the elements. We recommend red plaid and some sort of animal fur but our fashion sense may be a little off. Admission is $5.00 for everyone. We will be checking ID’s, and wristbanding at the gate. As always, no backpacks or alcohol are allowed to be brought in. There will be plenty of tasty Schell’s beer waiting for you once you are inside, we promise. The line outside the gates might be a bit intimidating, but it moves pretty fast. Last year it took about ten minutes to get from the back of the line through the gate. For everyone traveling to the fest on buses, please note that you still have to go through the main gates to have your ID checked, be wristbanded, and pay admission. Once you are inside, the fun begins!

The great Bock Hunt begins with prizes for each of the seven Bocks of winter that are captured. And yes, Ted swears they are still out there from last year. The illustrious Bock Fest Boys have once again managed to find time off from their world tour to grace us with their musical talents. Any guesses as to how many times Ring of Fire will be played this year?

We will have three bonfires roaring in case you get a little chilly, or want to try having your beer poked. If you’re hungry, we’ll be serving lots of tasty food in several locations. Bock brats, landjaegers, sauerkraut, chicken dumpling soup, bread stix & cheese, and popcorn will all be on sale, and will surely hit the spot. Lest we forget, we’ll have 28 tap lines running non-stop, serving that delicious Schell’s Bock and Light beer we all love and came to celebrate! We can’t wait to see ya there! And don’t forget- DRESS WARMLY!

Zicke Zacke,

Zicke Zacke,

Heu Heu Heu!!!

 Bock on,

Ted Marti

An update from Flat Earth Brewing Company

Here’s an update from our friends across the river (well… technically some of us live on that side of the river, but whatever…) at Flat Earth Brewing Company.

Greetings fellow Flat Earther’s,
Zed said he’s not hosting an intergalactic kegger. But, we are! Join us at Stub and Herb’s, Minneapolis on Halloween night for the inaugural Flat Earth Intergalactic Kegger! Music! Beer! Prizes! Check our website for the scary details coming soon!
Due to the outrageously positive response and feedback we decided to brew Cygnus X-1 year round which will shore up our regularly scheduled line-up of brews. Look for more of Cygnus X-1 sometime in November along with our other brews (Flat Earth Belgian Pale, Element 115 and Angry Planet) to be in bottles coming soon.

The next tour of the brewery will be Saturday October 20th at 5 p.m.

We’ve got another busy month of special appearances in addition to our Intergalactic kegger at Stub & Herb’s. On the 13th we will be at Sally’s Saloon and Eatery, Minneapolis for Midwestfest. A fundraiser held by the Twin Cities chapter of the Rotaract Club dedicated to community service here and around the world. Our beer will be on tap and we will have some swag and other cool stuff on silent auction. Come down for some great beer for an awesome cause. You can even bid on “brewer for a day” with Jeff the brewer. See tcrotaract.org for more event information.
Starting on the 15th, Flat Earth will be the beer of the week at Buster’s on 28th, one of South Minneapolis’ newest neighborhood hangs. Head down to Buster’s and get special pricing on Angry Planet.
Cathie and I will be heading to Denver October 11 for the Great American Beer Festival, the largest beer festival in the Nation. We are very excited to go and taste great beers from around the country and go head to head with other breweries and brewpubs in tasting competition. Wish us luck! If you are heading out stop by our booth and say “Hi!”

Cheers!

Summit wants you

Summit is looking for more enthusiastic fans to become volunteer tour guides! These guides lead our free Saturday public tours, and have a great time telling the Summit story, showing off the beautiful brewery, and pouring samples for the masses. If this sounds like you, please email your letter of interest to info@summitbrewing.com with “Tour Guide” in the subject line. Cheers!
