Those jokesters at Surly

So the email from Omar comes in, “Surly is closing….” Yeah, funny stuff. Anyway, here are some updates from Brooklyn Center.

Surly Brewing is closing… for growler sales on July 5th. The staff is all getting out of the brewery for a few days.

Mark your calendars – July 16th – Mackenzie’s Bar in Minneapolis. Cask beer and a keg of Two!

Todd did some fabrication work and we are now making more coffee bender than ever! Look for more of your favorite caffeinated beverage to pop up around town.

Save the date  – SurlyFest is scheduled on Saturday, September 6th. The plan is to tap the first keg of SurlyFest at the event, and then tap a few more. There will be food, beer and music all at the brewery. Tickets will go on sale at the brewery once we get all the details worked out.

See you drinking,
Omar

And the winners are….

Thanks to Ryan being on vacation, I was able to attend the awards ceremony for the Summit Beer Movie Contest this past Thursday. It was a great crowd, made better of course by the equally good beer and apps. After an hour of free beer and socializing, they showed the winning films and the honorable mentions (which, in addition to the other entires–almost 50 in all–will be posted on the Social Element in the next few weeks). There are some real gems, so make sure you check ’em out!

The winning films are:

1st place: “No Guts, No Glory” submitted by Ryan Taylor
2nd place: “The Offer” submitted by Tapio Haku
3rd place: “The Bachelor Chef” submitted by Douglas Latimer

Honorable Mentions:

“The Idea” submitted by Colin Silver
“Zombies” submitted by Ken Avidor
“Wanted” submitted by Michael Forstein and Colin Keith Thomsen
“Hey!! That’s Alcohol Abuse” submitted by Jeremy Lockwood
“Root Beer Float” submitted by Ric & Barb Roy
“Rick Hillard on Summit” submitted by Rick Hillard

Pedal Pubs Now Legal

The legislature passed, and the governor signed into law, some changes to the state’s liquor laws Thursday. The most notable change, at least to this follower, legalizes pedal pubs to operate on streets and in parks, gives pedal pubs the same rights as limos and party buses with regard to consumption in public. Woo hoo! Oh yeah, you may have also heard that bars can now stay open until 4 a.m. during the Republican National Convention.

The entire bill can be viewed here.
