Ryan Anderson (that's me!) is the editor & founder of MNBeer. Much has changed since the fall of 2005 and I'm proud to have been a part of it all. Sometime I'll tell you about my grand theory that links craft brewing to punk rock. Just ask.

Vine Park News

First off, we’re happy to share that Vine Park’s newest employee found out about the job through MNBeer.com. Keep it up and we’ll be the Monster.com of the local craft beer world… or something like that. Here’s another cool deal from VP:

We are offering a special change in our Wednesday night Brew Club offering. On June 25th & July 2nd, the six beers will be a hop lovers harem! The six brews featured will be our Horny Toad Pale Ale, CA Steam, India Pale Ale, Mulligan Ale (a west coast hopped version of an IPA), Rabid Penguin Porter, and a nice crisp Capital Hill Pilsner. What with hop prices as they are, this is a special priced event. $80 on brewing night and two weeks later you return to bottle the brews. Your cost would depend upon whether you need bottles or are bringing them back from a previous brewing with us. Your yield is 3 cases with a mix of six bottles of each of the six kinds.

I like all of these beers…

A nice series of beers at Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery… Do me a favor and don’t drink them all before I get back…

Hey All,
As we roll up on the day of our independence celebration (July 4), we feel we all need to stop and remember/think about the Red, White, and Blue.
The brewery made a special series:

“Life” 7.3% abv hoppy Double American RED ale
“Liberty” 5% abv  American WHITE ale
“Pursuit of Happiness” 4.9 %abv American BLUEberry wheat
This coming Monday 6/23 we will release “Life” and “Liberty” and look for “Pursuit of Happiness” in the near future.

If you don’t drink it all by then, look for the special growler package of all three of these beers the weekend of July 4th for just $24 (must purchase all three).

Happy Summer

Mike

Bargain Hunting…

I’ll be in the Park Rapids/Walker area next week, leaving the care of MNBeer.com up to Eric, Jeff, Mag & Kris. Please treat them well. 🙂

More importantly, I need a good deal on 12-packs of Summit & Schell’s. Suggestions? I’m craving local hefeweizen and don’t feel like paying the “up north”/municipal liquor store premiums.

A Saturday of Firsts in SLP

Legal beer on the PedalPub!, originally uploaded by MNBeer.

Saturday was a special day in St. Louis Park. The Four Firkins held its Grand Opening Party with a little help from friends at Brau Brothers, August Schell, Summit, Surly & Flat Earth. I attempted to help from about 5pm onward and the place was constantly busy all night.

It was also a special evening for the PedalPub, as Saturday marked its maiden voyage with beer on public roads. I took a ride with some excited pedalers and totally forgot to bring a beer! It was still a lot of fun!

Al’s Birthday Bash at the Blue Nile

Al is turning 40 in a couple of weeks, so to celebrate his official “over the hill” status, he’s throwing a party at The Blue Nile on Saturday, June 28th. Beer will flow. I promise. In fact, Al has provided a preliminary lineup:

4:00 pm Tyranena Dirty Old Man. (Whiskey Barrel Aged Imperial Rye Porter)

4:30 Cask of Rush River Bubblejack IPA.

5:00 Tyranena Devil Over A Barrel Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Oatmeal Porter

5:30 Cask of Bell’s Two Hearted Ale

6:00 Tyranena’s new Brewer’s Gone Wild entry, Scurvy, IPA brewed with orange peel.

6:30 Surly Oak-Aged CynicAle

7:00 One small keg of Surly Two

the 4-6 2-4-1’s will be in effect, but not for the cask pints, which will be reasonably priced (probably $3), and not for the 6:00 tapping, either, which will be 12 oz pours, because it is a small keg.

The old man will be pouring, until 7 after which time AARP will call and tell him that he must take a break and sit on the other side of the bar. None of this is set in stone right now, but it’ll give you a good idea of what might be available that night. Al says that presents aren’t necessary, though I suggest he won’t protest if you give him a nice bottle of hard-to-find craft beer. 🙂
